The massively overhauled 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will start at $92,900, not including a $925 destination fee, when it arrives at US dealers in October. That's a 2.8-percent drop over the 2013 S-Class, although Mercedes is fast to point out that a drop in price doesn't equate with a drop in equipment for the executive sedan.

Besides an extra 20 horsepower from the 4.6-liter, biturbocharged V8, the S550 sports a standard panoramic sunroof, keyless start, a rear-view camera and LED headlights, taillights and interior lights. Adding the German manufacturer's 4Matic all-wheel-drive system bumps the S550's price up to $95,900.

If the S550 doesn't quite cut the mustard, you can wait until November, at which point Mercedes will quite happily sell you the new S63 AMG 4Matic for $139,500. Power is also up on the S63, from a max of 563 ponies with an AMG Performance Package to 577 horsepower as standard on the 2014 model.

These numbers are far from the whole story on S-Class pricing. Mercedes still has a wealth of optional extras that it hasn't announced pricing for, not to mention additional powertrains and such, coming within the next several months. Stay tuned for details.

Mercedes-Benz Announces Pricing on All-New 2014MY S-Class

Segment-Leading Flagship to Start at $92,900*

MONTVALE, N.J., Sept. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The all-new 2014 S-Class has raised the bar yet again within the automotive industry, featuring new levels of craftsmanship, refinement, and overall luxury. With a suite of intelligent safety and overall technologies that customers expect of Mercedes-Benz, its competitive position as an industry leader represents a price/value improvement of 2.8% vs. the outgoing model with an MSRP of $92,900* (the outgoing 2013MY model was priced at $95,000, a $2,100 difference).

Industry-Leading Luxury

The all-new 2014 S-Class appeals to all the senses. With its beautiful interior craftsmanship that features heated armrests and hot stone seating massage, ionized air purification via the AIR BALANCE PACKAGE, First Class rear-seat luxury, and a Burmester sound system, its character and overall presence is unmatched. Its fresh, confident, and sophisticated exterior design goes hand-in-hand with an intelligent suspension system called MAGIC BODY CONTROL, which sees the road ahead and adjusts the suspension accordingly.

"The S-Class is the embodiment of the four words which have served as the inspiration for our company since its inception, "The Best or Nothing." said Steve Cannon, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. "Every time we introduce a new generation, we have the opportunity to deliver more power, greater efficiency and unmatched safety, backed with an improved value proposition. Not only is the new S-Class the most intelligent car on the road, it's also a smart choice."

Industry-Leading Active and Passive Safety: Intelligent Drive

Mercedes-Benz focuses on real-world safety with the goal of accident-free driving, and the S-Class offers a portfolio of more than 30 standard and optional active and passive safety technologies called Intelligent Drive. For example, the Driver Assistance Package, available for $2800 in the 2014 S-Class and 2014 E-Class sedan, wagon, coupe, and cabriolet, offers the following content:

DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist: radar-based cruise control system with semi-autonomous steering inputs that can work from 0-124 mph depending on road conditions.
PRE-SAFE Brake: Autonomously brakes the vehicle up to 31 mph with or without driver input, and can partially mitigate accidents up to 45 mph.
PRE-SAFE PLUS: rear-facing radar that senses possible rear collisions and prepares the vehicle for a possible secondary incident into an active intersection.
BAS PLUS with Cross Traffic Assist: reads cross-traffic encounters with stereoscopic cameras and adds appropriate brake assistance to prevent an incident in an active intersection.
Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Protection: one-sided braking.
Other Intelligent Drive safety features include Attention Assist and Night View Assist Plus with human and animal detection.

Segment Leadership in Overall Value

The 2014 S-Class base price starts at $92,900,* which represents a 2.8% price/value improvement over the outgoing model year 2013 version. Some of the new standard equipment includes 20 more hp, rear-view camera, Panorama Sunroof, All-LED lighting (entire vehicle, inside/out), Keyless Start, and MAGIC VISION CONTROL. The combination of competitive pricing, luxury, technology, and overall content is compelling.
The high-performance S63 AMG 4MATIC will be priced at $139,500* with a 4.5% price/value improvement over the outgoing 2013 version. Pricing on the new model now includes standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive and 577 hp. The outgoing MY2013 S63 rear-wheel drive model was priced at $140,000 without all-wheel drive and with 536 hp as standard (563 hp with the optional performance package).

In calendar year 2014, more powertrain and body style variants of the S-Class will make their respective debuts at various periods of time.

Mercedes has been holding back on exterior styling until mid life refresh for years now. Normally the interior will also have obvious cut corners also but this interior... Breathtaking. I am hope the mid life cycle refresh will focus all on exterior styling and do very little to the interior. The exterior is a 7 for me but that interior- easy 10 and that's where the bulk of Mercedes buyers spend their time. It will sell just fine.

I love the new Mercs I wish the SLC AMG came out soon so I'd buy it instead of the R8 or 911 I'm planning to get in January

I'm sure there are people who like this car and can't wait to buy one. It is probably one of the most comfortable and luxurious cars you can drive (or be driven in). But $93K and you get the whole song and dance about it having "standard sunroof, key-less start, rear-view camera, and led lights"? Sounds like an ad for a Civic EX. No wonder this car leads in depreciation. Also, "MAGIC BODY CONTROL" - can you imagine being a car salesman seriously trying to sell this feature? :-D Bring on the down votes lol :-P

From the MB press release: "Some of the new standard equipment includes 20 more hp, rear-view camera, Panorama Sunroof, All-LED lighting (entire vehicle, inside/out), Keyless Start, and MAGIC VISION CONTROL." I was wrong the Civic doesn't come with MAGIC VISION CONTROL!!!

Amazing Tech and Glorious interior, but it looks like a Hyundai. For 92 Grand I at least want Audi A8-Level styling harmony.

You want a dull looking FWD proportioned car for 92K, because that is what the Audi A8 is. Wonderful car that it is. M

Looks too round and bloated looking to me. The current S Class is more athletic and aggressive.

The current S-cass is ugly as hell. The worst part were the immensely huge wheel arches whick looked like they belonged to a SUV. The S-class should be elegant and sculpured by fine lines, the new one thankfully is.

Haven't loved a Mercedes since I was a teenager. Still don't love anything new from the brand. Luxury brands across the board rely too heavily on LED's. I under what Bangle meant when he said he didn't feel the industry was leading design trends. Head/rear lamps have become ridiculously over emphasized. The once felt tremor of luxury brands introducing head turning styles seems to be gone for the moment. There is little risk and bravery in with design in the luxury market today. The compact/domestic sedan market seems to have taken style by the reins, while the luxury brands tweak old bodies with LED laden DRLs and tail lights. None of the luxury brands have put out a vehicle with industry changing style for years now. Heck, even Hyundai makes more leaps with style than Mercedes.

Exactly, Benz offers nothing new to for the industry to follow. It simply follows the industry while throwing more AMG models at the public than you can handle.

Come on … the S class offers lot more features than Tesla. S class is so much better :) . The resin more teslas are sold is because its cheaper. Why are more Corollas sold than Tesla? Does that mean a corolla is better than Tesla?
