It turns out the Mugen really is fast. Just yesterday we got our first official look at the JDM version of the all new Honda Fit. In both Hybrid and minty-fresh RS trim, the Japanese Fit is more complexly surfaced and angular than in any of the previous generations. Mugen has apparently been working with the new Fit body for a while, as the tuning house has just released some images and information about parts for the new hatchback.

Suddenly the original Honda styling seems somewhat restrained.

Mugen has crafted body kit parts to work with both the Hybrid and RS models, right from go. Though detailed information is still a little sparse, we're told that parts include: two types of front spoilers, a bumper and a chin spoiler, side skirts, and a carbon fiber rear wing (for the RS).

In terms of functional accessories, a sport exhaust, upgraded brake pads and a new slinky set of Mugen wheels are all up for grabs. "Semi-bucket" and "full-bucket" racing seats can also be had, as can a gauge cluster for water temperature, oil temperature and oil pressure. Read the full Mugen press release, below.

MUGEN has already been developing design, functions, and product lineups of various kinds for the first and second edition of "FIT" which have been satisfying those who buy the "FIT" as a primary-use car, as well as the customers who drive their "FIT" at circuits. Now, with this announcement we would like to propose various kinds of newly developed parts for everyone under the concept "Premium Smart Sports".

First of all, we will be offering two types of front spoilers; a full aero bumper, and an under spoiler type, available based on customer preference. A new aluminum wheel, MUGEN "MD8" wheel has been developed exclusively for the new "FIT" range, to be offered in addition to the two other styles of wheel-rims already available. To complement the above, other MUGEN items such as a wide-angled blue colored Hydrophilic LED mirror, semi-bucket "MS-Z"seats, the "MS-R"full-bucket seat, assist meters equipped with water-temperature, oil-temperature, and oil pressure gauges oriented for sports driving, sports mats, and ventilated visors are all available to enhance the driving experience, and all designed to help customers create their own personalised "MUGEN FIT."

This just got ignored by a Honda fan. I have to say, though, body kits are popular in Japanese compacts since their dense urban environments and ridiculous highway speed limits don't really let you use your horsepower. Same in Hong Kong where I've lived before; 100 km/h with most highways and other open roads blanketed in speed cameras. JDM compacts with body kits are the order of the day.

I have to disagree, the body kit looks very solid, and factory. The style, the ground clearance is all on point. If It had a spunky 180hp engine, it would give the Fiesta ST a run for its money.

.......minus the motor. But if they ever did offer a motor upgrade, it will be so expensive, nobody will be able to afford it, no dealer would be able to install it "properly", and it will most definitely void warranty.

I have a 2nd gen Fit and feel the new one is just overdone, even in stock form. Mugen just makes it worse. And just when I started thinking the Japanese had begun to understand styling restraint. Glad I bought the one I did.

the whole JDM look is getting more polarizing. If you look at companies like Tommykaira they epitomize how "busy" the designs have become. Their influence from Gundam and other manga influenced robots is destroying good taste.
