The crew at Jay Leno's Garage have been pretty busy this week. Besides getting some face time with General Motors' Ed Welburn and the Cadillac Elmiraj Concept, the funny man and his film crew managed to make off with the new Porsche 918 Spyder. Now, Jay and his team are in the UK to drive the new P1, visiting the McLaren Technical Center in Woking and heading out to the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome.

In case you're wondering, yes, Jay is the first person outside of McLaren to drive the new hybridized hypercar, and not surprisingly is on the list to take delivery of one of the production models. As rumors swirled this past weekend about the P1's blistering Nürburgring time, it's exciting to see it lap another fan-favorite circuit The video offers a cool look inside the laboratory-like assembly line where the P1 is built, as well. Take a look below for the full video.

Agreed! Those rims really make it look so much more elegant. Black rims on any car look absolutely hideous.

Why on earth would the Operations Director of McLaren, when asked the prepared question "what's in it that makes it worth this kind of money", reply "What you're buying is the ultimate driving machine"? It's just possible that that tag line has been used before...

Yea, but the company that used it ditched it for a more mainstream message.

Is Jay really a "car guy"? Yes, he likes them. He has many of them as well but the guy cant drive. He is just a rich guy with very expensive toys. Should of just had Jensen Button to drive it and yes, the black one looks awesome. The black color hides all the weird curvy cut outs on the corners of the car.

i agree...he's not a good driver. still, he knows more about cars than anyone i know...even crazy details. so yeah, i guess he must be a car guy nonetheless.

Because only professional race car drivers can be car guys? The guy who spends years and years building his hot rod in his garage that can only really do well on a drag strip isn't a car guy because he doesn't know how to heel-toe? The guy who won the lottery and bought a used NSX isn't a car guy because he doesn't know how to track a car? You need to open your mind a bit and go to more car events. "Car guys" come in all shapes and forms, not just someone who knows how to kick some plates and rotate a ring better than others.

I'm not sure I could adequately exploit the abilities of such a machine either. The thing Jay Leno gives us is a perspective of a guy who's into cars but he can put it in more of a way people can understand. His enthusiasm is infectious, I must say. I wonder if we'll see him on Top Gear again.

What an idiotic comment. Check your cred at the door for suggesting something so insanely stupid. He's absolutely a car guy, top-to-bottom.

Between the three new "hypercars", the P1, the LaFerrari, and the Porsche 918, the P1 is my favorite. But I hate the interiors of McLarens. Very un-carlike, not very interesting, or rich, or exciting. A place of work. For the money, they should be better. BD

He clearly excited to drive the car, more so than most anything I've seen him drive. He's normally very down to earth and humble, but he did act a bit like a privileged celebrity in this video. I'll forgive his demeanor because I'm so stoked by the car itself. Love to see something so modern that shows off a range of modern and current tech in all its glory.
