Trying to build a boutique buying atmosphere with a large-volume premium brand isn't easy, but Lexus is attempting to do just that by introducing its new Intersect By Lexus dealership experience. This aspect of Lexus retailing has nothing to do with cars and everything to do with luxury lifestyle accessories. Intersect By Lexus is effectively an all-in-one shopping destination for high-quality, hand-crafted designer products, many of them created specifically for the marque, right down to their "Crafted for Lexus" branding.

The first Intersect By Lexus store will open at the end of this month in Tokyo, with other stores planned for New York and Dubai. Going over the first store's initial product list, it seems that each store will offer wares that reflect its location. Some of the products available at Intersect By Lexus Tokyo include a $400 minimalist LED desk light, hand-sewn $286 tablet cover and a $133 drip coffeemaker and cup set handmade from the ash of Japan's Sakurajima volcano. Scroll down for a short video showing how some of these products were made.

Are all these products rebadged and then sold as Toyota products in other markets, just like the cars?

Lexus doesnt nearly have enough brand cachet to pull this off. Porsche could do it because Porsche stands for something. BMW could do it. Harley Davidson could do it. It is because all these brand stand for something identifiable. Lexus stands for nothing in particular other than just an ill-defined, generic sense of luxury.

Yeah too bad it has been proven time and time again that Lexus luxury trumps BMW and even Porsche luxury. #FACT

I don't think Lexus is generic at all, no more than claiming that Mercedes is generic anyway. Lexus basically stands for the very best in Japanese luxury cars. That doesn't mean that their cars are more luxurious than a Bentley, it's basically luxury with a Toyota type philosophy. Where reliability, fit, and finish are taken to their very peak while also cranking luxury up to the max. I actually think that Lexus models are very unique in the luxury sector, the CT for example has no competition whatsoever from other luxury manufacturers. Nobody else makes a car like that-a compact 5 door luxury hybrid? And the LFA is also very unique, other manufacturers might do sports cars, but NOTHING about the LFA is generic while almost everything about it pushes the envelope in some way. Is it the highest horsepower car? No, but that's not the damned point-that super fast revving V10 is an amazing work of art and it's insanely lightweight. But what elevates it even further, and makes it a Lexus is that they actually want you to drive the car because Lexus went and made this motor actually durable and reliable even though it's revving like a race motor. The 3D woven carbon fiber body is damned cool too. Lexus might not be your particular cup of tea, I'm not sure if I would personally buy a Lexus right now since I think other models suit my current tastes better, but Lexus isn't generic at all. Just because you don't like what they make doesn't make them generic. And I for one think the LFA is way ******* cooler than the SLS or and BMW doesn't even make a competing vehicle! I see people driving SLSs all the time around the cushy parts of town here and I'm damned sure that most of those people don't give a **** about driving, but if you see someone driving an LFA you know that person is seriously into motorsport.

How bout a flask of radioactively contaminated water from the Pacific Ocean, courtesy of the irresponsible Fukushima operators and politicians? I say boycott Japanese products until they become more socially and environmentally responsible.

I can somewhat understand Porsche and Ferrari branded merchandise, but for Lexus it seems a bit absurd.

Lexus is on a roll launching brand new cars with top of the line quality performance and luxury RC is coming SC NX and who else know what they have up there sleeves right now its the perfect time for them to launch a high end fashion line. And the fact that there commercials now a days speaks fashion luxury I think this was awesome business adventure for Lexus. right now to me Lexus is the most exciting brand out there. Simple because no one knows what to expect from them design wise. Audi BMW Mercedes design wise you know what's coming just as we did with the A8 Look how far apart in design the current GS ES and IS are from each other yet keeping the brand identities.

They take risk and every great designers out there knows you have to take risk and that its ok to be different and that's what the IS bring some may think its ugly some thinks its a work of art but one thing it is. Its different from most cars out there. With Lexus you never gonna know what this model spindle grille will look like can't say the same for Audi or BMW kidney grille. when people are different everyone hates and make fun off them or it but if different didn't exist we all would be the same. why hate something for being different when so many times in our heads we attempt to be different and someone either laughs or do something stupid. So I agree with you Lexus is the most exciting brand design wise at the moment
