Toyota has released a second teaser of its Hybrid-R Concept, along with an estimation of the show car's power output. Using technology that's "similar to that used by Toyota Racing's TS030 Hybrid race car," the concept is expected to deliver over 400 horsepower.

The press release also mentions that the new concept is based on a current production model. While it's difficult to tell from the sole teaser image of the car's body, rumors are flying that it's related to the Yaris. If that's the case, though, it's difficult to know what to make of this concept. The teaser image is quite dark, but we played around with the exposure and came up with an image that reveals more details about the new concept. Take a look at the related gallery, below, to see the high-exposure image. We'll find out for certain what the Hybrid-R is in a few weeks at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Let us know what you think Toyota's newest concept is in the comments.

TOYOTA HYBRID-R CONCEPT AT THE FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: MORE DETAILS RELEASED

Hybrid-R is based on a current Toyota production model and is equipped with a powertrain that features similar technology to that used by Toyota Racing's TS030 Hybrid race car in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

It combines a high-power internal combustion engine with electric motors to achieve a maximum power output of more than 400bhp (298kW). A dual mode control allows the car's performance to be tailored to suit either road or racetrack.

Toyota will host a press conference on its stand in Hall 8 at 12.45pm on 10 September.

They already have the Prius C which occupies the compact hatchback slow hybrid high mpg. If they build a Yaris hybrid, I highly suggest they throw in the Camry 2.4 liter hybrid motor and tune it a bit (maybe 210hp) Yaris weighs 2300 lbs stock Camry weighs 3190. Camry hybrid adds 245 lbs to the stock weight. So 2,595 lbs and 210hp in the yaris. That's a 840lbs lighter than the Camry hybrid that does 7.3 / 15.7 (respectable). It could conceivably be in the 14.9 / 6.4 seconds and get 45mpg combined on regular fuel! AND be cheaper than a Civic Si and be lighter by about 300lbs. That is hands down a CRZ killer! So if Toyota wants performance.. there it is. GROW SOME BALLS TOYOTA DO IT NOW! Then you can also get rid of the TC (which is now too expensive) and redo the Xa again with this engine! If they are looking at 400hp, then go to the FT-HS. https://www.google.com/search?q=toyota+fths&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=li&biw=1092&bih=514&sei=SYsLUrawAe-GyQGwq4HoCQ

they could use that engine in a 6th car as well: 1. Performance Yaris Hybrid 2. Rav 4 hybrid 3. Camry Hybrid 4. Lexus CT200h 5. ES Hybrid 6. Some type of scion hatch hybrid. (only do performance hybrids on the scion line).

You lost me at "concept." If you aren't going to make the car then I'm not interested. That's just me. I know others like the ideas and designs that are displayed.

wow the concept will deliver over 400hp. Dont concepts always have ridiculous claims on specs but most cant even drive under their own power? Im sure this will be a 400hp 1.0L twin-charge, electric turbo, flexfuel, that can go 0-60 in 2 seconds and get 1000mpg all with biodegradable and edible body panels. cause its a concept and they can claim whatever they want to.

Seems more Prius "C". Although with a face like this, what possible future a 400+ hp engine/motors even mean? Something similar to the Golf R thing with the 500hp engine. Seems like a lot of hype for nothing.

you are complaining about a potential 400 horse awd hatch that might be actually affordable ? does not compute if you like going fast
