Although we're still not entirely sure what Mercedes is planning to call its new sub-SLS coupe, more potential information about the car is starting to come to light. After Mercedes released official "spy shots" (shown above) back in June, Auto Express is saying that we might have to wait until 2015 to see this production version on the road.

Potential names for the car include SLC and the return of the SLR name, but regardless of what it will be called, this car is aimed squarely at the Porsche 911. Previously, we heard the new Mercedes could start under $100,000, but this report says that the new coupe will carry a base price of around $122,000, while a Black Series model could go for around $180,000 (both prices converted from British pounds). In any case, seems it'll be a few more years before we actually know for sure.

I don't think we can just convert prices from British pounds. Car prices are always higher there. I think the 100k price may be entirely possible fpr the US.

SO MUCH THIS!!! Autolblog STOP DOING THIS... It is extremely shortsighted and ruins your journo credibility. You KNOW that is not how it works, many others have made example comparisons before so I will spare you the additional text.

Autoblog pretty much ignores the comment section for corrections. I think they're most interested in page views. They still spell "MINI" as "Mini" on their articles among other mistakes.

Hopefully it looks better than the SL...

The $100k price tag seems right. 122k would put it right against the SL63 and I don't think Mercedes would want that.

It looks exactly the same size of an SLS.. Im guessing this is the successor.

At $100K, this will be right in the mix with the SL and CL classes, and this will significantly affect the SL sales numbers. Since it's likely to be an AMG model, I think it will probably base just over $150K and have the 6.3 from the SLS GT.

The SLS is not even better than a 911 so I don't know why they think a sub SLS will compete.

But this is a smaller car than the SLS so it's bound to be lighter and more nimble
