It's been a while since we've heard rumors of the fabled high-performance Lexus GS F, but thanks to our eager spy photographers, this looks to be our first real proof of the machine's existence. We don't have the usual brace of photos from all angles to work with this time around, our spies saying that every time Lexus' garage door opened, engineers jumped in front of the cameras to prevent the car from being photographed.

Even so, we have a pretty clear glimpse at some significant changes to this GS sedan, including the same staggered, quad-pipe exhaust found on the Lexus IS F. There's also an air diffuser panel nestled between the exhaust outlets, as well as a larger lip spoiler and unique wheels (matching those of the RC coupe) wrapped in high-performance tires.

Last time we heard rumors of the GS F's existence, sources predicted that the M5-fighting sedan would use a tuned version of Lexus' 5.0-liter V8, producing something like 465 horsepower. We have also heard that the automaker plans to reduce weight wherever possible, and that the final curb weight will be something like 3,700 pounds.

Of course, those earlier reports said we'd see the car as early as 2012, and that obviously didn't happen. These days, our spies' best guess is that the GS F will arrive in time for the 2015 model year.

The thing needs more than 465 horsepower if it even hopes to have a chance of being anything more than lunch for an M5 or E63. Ha.. Remember those days when we thought the E55 was bonkers with 469 horses? My god, I love this power war.

The turbos they'll probably add will make up for the assumed power of that V8. It'll get tons of torque and the weight lose and handle will make it a BLAST to drive. Remember, Lexus/Toyota aren't about the numbers, but experience and fun.

You do realize that Toyota currently produces a grand total of ZERO turbo engines? And only ONE turbo I4 rumored for 2014.

        A turbo 5.0 v8 should put out a lot more than 465hp.

"Remember, Lexus/Toyota aren't about the numbers, but experience and fun." Ahh yes. Nothing says experience and fun like a full line of dull and boring cars.

I'm afraid that Lexus aren't the only ones doing crocked exhaust tips, but they surely started it with the 2006 LS. I hate when driving behind cars like these and clearly see through some of the exhaust tip, especially when the lights reflect back once hitting whatever is on the other side.

andrew, even though I agree with you 100%, what i don't understand is why would you even compare a Cadillac with an expensive toyota??? Lexus is NOT, repeat NOT, in the league of the MB, BMW, Audi, Jaguar and Cadillac. This brand is decent, but in a different category; lexus, Buick, Acura the leathered up nissan, volvo, all are in the premium category, not luxury. So, it's really not fair for the lexus to be compared to either one of the luxury brands.

Too bad they won more award for their quality than Caddy has ever done! Just like Toyota so I would rather drive an Expensive Toyota than an Expensive GM because I know my stuff are top class

Umm excuse me, who set the the fastest production car record at the Nurbergring? Not Cadillac, not even Bugatti. But LFA. The GSF will dominate in its class as the GS already does.

Technically Lexus didn't either, even if you ignore the first three track day specials. 6:48 - Radical SR8 LM 6:55 - Radical SR8 7:11.57 - Gumpert Apollo Sport 7:12:13 - Dodge Viper ACR (2010) 7:14.64 - Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package

I'm sure it'll be great, but no one in the public knows a lot about it so you can't make assumptions yet. And you may need to check your facts about the Nürbergring lap record, I'm pretty sure the Radical SR8 holds the lap record.

Lexus will have to do better than that. The numbers are better than the 550i and S6, but nowhere near the M5. I hope the weight loss will compensate for the lack of horsepower or it is priced accordingly (say, where the CTS-V is).
