It seems that during a recent affair showing off the 2014 Cadillac CTS, General Motors CEO Dan Akerson confirmed reports regarding a new Cadillac flagship sedan. According to USA Today, which Akerson was visiting, he said that a sedan larger than the XTS would debut within the next two years.

This matches up with what we heard earlier in the month about a Cadillac model that will go up against the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class (not a pricier, low-volume sedan also discussed in that article). But this is the first time a high-profile executive name has been attributed to such a report, and the first time a broad timeframe has been mentioned. This article adds that the unnamed car will be rear-, and all-wheel drive with a platform "loosely based" on the new CTS, with styling closer to that car than recent Cadillac concept vehicles. The XTS will continue production of course, as well.

      The interior design, build quality, and materials all look pretty amazing on the new S Class. Cadillac certainly has their work cut out for them. Personally, I am more excited about the upcoming ATS V and CTS V, than Cadillac's next land yatch S Class competitor.

      Akerson, I've been hearing about this thing since ~2005; where is it?

      " a Cadillac model that will go up against the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class"... Playing "catch-up" again. I've never once seen a statement from BMW that mentioned Cadillac in terms of competition. Chasing every BMW "--"series model with discounts and chrome. Will Cadillac ever stop chasing competition and actually give the competition something to follow? Come on, everything from the most basic Kia's already have LEDs, I realize it all sounds harsh but I really think Cadillac needs an in-house shake-up. A company whose entire business plan is to undercut and over sell BMW? Come on.

        yeah you dont know what the hell you talking about.......instead of micro pinching low budget "affordable" models that bmw is putting out just for sales doesnt sound like a luxury company to me.....the new CTS V is going to demolish the comepetition.....and in a world full of LED headlights Cadillac's seems to be the only distinctive one....and isnt BMW playing catch up in the EV department ? the ELR will hit the dealer lots this fall......and is way more stunning the BMW i pruis .....

      Well, I for one am looking forward to it.  I get tired of all the other cars trying to be bolder and bigger, while cadillac is content to sit back and let it happen.

        Trust me any car that is based on the Omega platform will not be a car for pensioners .

      Sounds about right......2015 launch date with a MY of 2016.......I truly can't wait for this car.......cadillac has been releasing stunner after stunner with each new model.....and at this years bebble beach concours they should show a loosely based concept of said flagship.......I can hands down.....cadillac is a very exciting brand to watch now......I can't want to see what they put out next.....

      So that means it will be a Caddy version of either the SS or the Impala, or whatever Opel or Holden has available. GM walked away from originality long ago.

        @bootsnchaps60
        No it will not be a Caddy version of anything since it is based on the new Omega platform and GM currently has nothing that is based on the Omega platform . I have heard rumors of a new Buick being built that would be based on a shortened version of the Omega platform .

        Of course, Cadillac can only compete, they never set the trends or lead the industry, they just follow with chrome and discounts.

      Seeing ATS's around on the road I really like Caddy’s new styling. I but a s class competitor is going to be drop dead gorgeous.
