2014 GMC Sierra front three-quarterGeneral Motors is recalling 843 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Crew Cab pickups, due to a fault with the vehicle's airbags. According to GM, the airbags may not inflate properly in the event of a crash. There haven't been any crashes or injuries associated with this recall, which is always good. Naturally, repairs will be free of charge, and GM will begin contacting affected owners soon.

GM has a lot hanging on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Not only is it banking over $12,000 per vehicle on these trucks, as reported by Automotive News, but GM is counting on the Sierra and Silverado to take the fight to cross-town rivals Ford and Ram. The F-150 and Ram 1500 have been on a tear over the past few years, with fresh updates, advanced powertrains, and plenty of solid press while the GM trucks have been waiting for the 2014-model-year upgrades.

It's still entirely too early to judge the Sierra and Silverado, particularly as those 843 recalled trucks make up barely two percent of the over 40,000 units moved so far. But, as AN rightly states, these trucks are the most important vehicles to come out of GM since bankruptcy, with about 60 percent of global profits relating to pickups and SUVs. Starting an introduction of such a big product with a recall, however small, is not the preferred way to do things.

      Recalls seem to be a regular routine for most automakers. It is a shame it is a suppliers fault!

        Get over yourself laser! There are so many airbags recalls so to single out GM on this issue is pointless to how they have improved over the old GM, New GM is doing things a lot better. Cadillac has had the most increased sales of all Auto brands this year. That's the New GM, I guess in your paranoid world this government motor thing is doing bad but fairy tales don't mean much!

        "Jan. 18, 2013 at 2:27 PM ET After having the second-highest number of recalls for any maker operating in the U.S. market, Honda is getting off to a rough start for 2013, this time announcing it will recall nearly three-quarters of a million vehicles because missing rivets could case their driver’s side airbags to fail to properly deploy in the event of a crash. The latest safety-related problem involves 748,000 of the maker’s popular Pilot crossover Odyssey minivan models. Another 29,000 of the vehicles sold in Canada are also covered. Because Ford didn't recall the new Escape multiple times for engine fire problems within months of each other right after launch.

        Greg ... guess what? Stuff happens ... those trucks have 100's of components (65% of which are NOT designed, made by GM) - at least they fess up to it - NOW rather than later ... like Toyota is known to do!

      I saw a new GMC Sierra on I-70 in western MD going East, the truck looks really nice in person. The only thing I wish GM could improve on these trucks are the MPG numbers. Yes I know their better then say MY 13 numbers but idk I Like to see 28 mpg on the hyw and 23 in the city on a light duty truck.e a

        @Farmerboy
        in a truck this size, you have to cut weight by a sizable amount to make up for a lack of aerodynamics. take for example the Avalanche. quite a bit lighter than the Suburban, yet mpgs aren't any better. until you can cut the weight on these trucks by 1000 lbs or more, you just won't see the gains in fuel economy you want.

        Had you read the just reported piece that GM is right now working on a weight reduction program on these new pickups to increase mpg? They need to improve mpg in order to counter the upcoming Ford atlas. Still nothing feels like a GM and if they can prove mpg a bit it would be perfect.

      I've become so desensitized from airbag recalls, really not worth getting upset about it anymore.

      I was really let down on the new 2014 silverado release...I bleed Chevy and boasted about the 2014 and was let down..smh.. I really hate that the 14 LTZs have the cooling seats exhaust right behind the seats which shoots hot air to the rear seats when on... Another thing... No ac vents for rear passengers, are you serious... You have to have more then a complete makeover on a truck to compete with the other competitors...becuase right now there are alot of negativity coming from the consumers....
