The 2014 model year brings plenty of new designs and updates from Nissan – including the next-generation Rogue – but the Altima Coupe has been discontinued. The current generation of the Coupe won buyers over with sharp styling and, at one point, a 270-horsepower naturally aspirated V6 – which was the heart of the more upscale Infiniti G35. It's unlikely that Nissan plans to make another one, but keep in mind the current Coupe was released to the public about a year after the sedan hit dealerships.

The vehicles joining Nissan's lineup for 2014 include the Versa Note hatchback, the NV200 Compact Cargo van and the next-generation Rogue compact SUV. Also new for 2014 is the Pathfinder Hybrid, but that will be added to the lineup in the fall.

Other models that are receiving enhancements are the sedan version of the Altima, which now comes standard with the CVT transmission and gets revised option packs; the Frontier, which gets updated option packs, enhanced navigation system functionality and a sliding middle rear window; the GT-R, which receives a bunch of small performance enhancements and, more importantly, initially will be offered in three versions (Premium, Black Edition and Track Edition), with another, limited special-edition model coming late in the year; the Versa sedan, all versions of which get 60/40-split fold-down rear seats and revised steering and suspension tuning; and last, but not least, the 370Z NISMO will have exterior accent color updates and a new steering wheel and tachometer.

There are plenty more details to be gleaned about Nissan's model lineup for 2014, so be sure to read the press release below.

UPDATE: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated: "The current generation of the Coupe won buyers over with sharp styling and, at one point, a 270-horsepower naturally aspirated V6 – which was the heart of the more upscale Infiniti G37." The text has since been corrected.

After revitalizing sales of the legendary Pathfinder nameplate with the 2013 introduction of an all-new fourth-generation design, Nissan's iconic SUV takes another major step forward in the 2014 model year with the introduction of the first-ever Pathfinder Hybrid.

At the heart of the new Pathfinder Hybrid – which is offered in 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive configurations – is its supercharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor paired to a compact Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. The Li-ion battery fits under the 3rd row seat so there is no compromise of passenger seating capacity, 2nd or 3rd row legroom or cargo space.

The hybrid system uses a Nissan Intelligent Dual Clutch System (one motor / two clutch parallel system) that efficiently manages power from both the electric motor and the gas engine. The 15 kW electric motor and gas engine work in tandem to provide performance equivalent to the non-hybrid Pathfinder's 3.5-liter gasoline V6. I'm actually shocked that I've seen so many on the road. But I guess I must live in a microcosm where this car was popular, because its now dead.

Don't throw dirt over the bones so glibly. There was a time when small cars were introduced as 2 door models and then maybe a 4 door version followed. It was a long time before 4 door versions of the iconic Accord and Civic appeared. There were 2 door versions of the Passat, Jetta (both strange) as well as Crown Victorias and the Olds 98. Big coupes like the Toronado, Eldorado, Rivera and Continental MkV found ready audiences. I remember reading in that time about a strange place called Australia where with few exceptions only 4 door cars found customers. I thought then "that'll never happen here" but look what has happened. Young single perpetually erect men are seen buying 4 door cars all over the country. The concept that anyone beyond your GF bumming a ride should be compactly stored in the rear has been nearly lost. While I never lusted for the Altima Coupe it carried the torch for 2 door cars of times past like the Capri, the Celica and the 240SX. In these days where Porsche makes more 4 doors than 2 doors those have the spirit must be forever vigilant.

I love coupes, but I never looked at an Altima Coupe and thought, "yes I am willing to give up $30k, two-doors, egress and ingress and gain absolutely nothing in performance, driving dynamics, and fun". So what's the point of building it?

Damon, not only did you misspell INFINITI, your information about the car's engine is totally inaccurate. The Altima had an option for the old VQ35DE, not the VQ35HR, and certainly not the VQ37HR. That's hardly a minor mistake. If you don't know the difference, then you're better off not writing anything about these cars.

"which now comes standard with the CVT transmission" The nissan CVT is the worst piece of garbage to ever come out of an automotive factory. I can't believe some people at nissan thought it was a good idea to put this in ANY of their cars.

Agreed. There's no angle on the Altima Coupe that was flattering. Good riddance to a poor design. I only wish they'd take that silly new Altima front grille with them as they go. The Altima is a fine car for its segment, but that ridiculous grille is a deal-breaker.
