President Obama has used the same armored limo since his inauguration in 2008. Known by many as The Beast, the Presidential Limo was provided by Cadillac and earned its nickname in large part because of its massive size, which isn't surprising considering that its Caddy-shaped bodywork is said to sit atop a heavy-duty truck chassis.

It seems the Secret Service may be in the market for a Beast replacement, having issued a request for proposals for a new armored limo. According to Motor Trend, Obama's backup limo is a leftover from the Bush Administration, so it will be interesting to see if this new machine will serve as a replacement for The Beast or for its backup. The contract is to be awarded by September 29, 2013.

The boys from MT contacted Cadillac, Lincoln and Chrysler, and Chrysler is the only one that would confirm that it is not pursuing the contract. Cadillac may have the inside track, as it has provided Presidential limos since 1993, but Lincoln also has a long and storied history of chauffeuring the President.

Since the entire project is classified (should we even be talking about this?), we don't expect to hear any information from The White House or any automakers before actually seeing its results. That said, stay tuned for any more information if and when we hear it.

You guys are going to be real displeased in 2017 when both VC-25's will be replaced with three aircraft. Back in 1986 one VC-25 cost $325 million today's 747-8 cost about the same but once you tack on all the options for a presidential transport, uh yeah. Hopefully for tax payers they plan on downsizing planes.

I can see it now. 25" chrome spinner wheels, fake porthole fender vents and solar panels on the roof that don't work. All for a few million tax payer dollars. But who cares, it's not there money.

Who upvoted this pile of racists stereotypes? Regardless of who the President of the United States is, we should want him or her protected. I never saw you morons whining about the cost of limos with any previous president. Oh - and I talked to a major U.S. bank the other day - their solar project portfolio is their best performing portfolio, with average returns of 10%. I guess those solar panels just don't work, huh?

It's for the next elected US President, not Obama. Only people looking for something to make fun of would call him Hussein. Like Rush and Glenn. Normal people criticize on actual issues and policies and tend to consider the meaning of the word "liberal" before using it.

Surprised it's not contacted Tesla or Solyndra, oh wait, that was a dead solar green company. Maybe the LG division that has our tax money to build car batteries for the Volt but no one working currently because no one wants enough electric cars to even be cause for the company have the people work could devote those couple hundred employees to build the limo. Sounds like they are getting paid to do nothing currently and have been since this great green agenda started a few years back. Must be union workers!

Because in five years, portable/small weapon technology has come along way. The armor needs to be updated to repel possible dangers. It's not possible to simply replace the panels as they are welded in and are part of the structural integrity. It's not like a regular stretch limo. By your post, you don't seem to know what socialism actually is. Do you enjoy fire protection, as in the fire dept shows up at your house if you retardedly set it ablaze? How about police protection? Been beaten to death on your doorstep lately? You like dialing 911 and having help arrive? How about that street you keep driving on? Did you pay for that entire street? How about that army, eh? Haven't had a large scale foreign invasion lately, have we? At least use the google machine once before confirming you're a clueless lemming.

Yeah, you left out puppies, apple pie, and ice cream as characteristic aspects of socialism. Gosh, how could anyone oppose such worthwhile and wholesome aspects of what we know as socialism. What B.S. Sorry, but government services like Police, Fire, EMT, etc. aren't aspects of Socialism. Those are normal functions of government that are funded by taxes. Socialism is represented by: Government ownership and subsidies to significant portions of the economy, e.g. GM, along with, Central planning that severely distorts any remnant free market, e.g. Bernanke's QE to infinity, Obama's corrupt Green Energy programs like Solyndra, and, Heavy coercive regulation of the economy, e.g. Obamacare, bankrupting the coal industry, along with, Disasterously high taxes, e.g. Obamatax, and Crony capitalism, e.g. Obama campaign head John Corzine (D-NJ) stealing $12 Billion from his hedge fund and still no charges brought 3 years later, and etc. Here's some jobless recovery Zen for ya: Socialism is Obama and Obama is socialism.

(continued) "Disasterously high taxes, e.g. Obamatax" This one is especially laughable. Disasterously high taxes? How many tax increases has Obama signed into law? How do current tax rates compare to historic levels? If you knew the answers to those questions, you wouldn't be so foolish as to include this comment with the rest of this laughable rant. Corporate tax rates have not changed under Obama, so you can't blame Obama for that one. For personal income taxes, the only increase has been the addition of a top tax bracket at 39.5%. FYI, that was the top tax rate from 1993-2001, and I don't remember it strangling the US economy then. Also, under most of Reagan's presidency, the top tax rate was 50%. I guess the "Reagantax" was a lot worse than the "Obamatax". Besides that, at the beginning of Obama's presidency, he signed a tax credit into law ($400 for individuals, $800 for married filing jointly). "Crony capitalism, e.g. Obama campaign head John Corzine (D-NJ) stealing $12 Billion from his hedge fund and still no charges brought 3 years later, and etc." Umm, a suit has been filed against Corzine by the CFTC. Also, in case you haven't noticed, very few criminal charges have been brought against the CEOs of any financial firms that collapsed or had to be rescued by TARP, and most of them are Republican. Cute cherry picking there.

Sequestration only is done to hurt people so they cave and give in to the rockstars wants and agenda. If he was a true American and believed in saving America some wasted money, he woudn't be getting a new limo unless this one is lived it's useful life which is probably no seeing how he likes to fly everywhere on the taxpayers dime.

For those whining about the cost, I would note that a single Joint Strike Fighter costs $81.7M: http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2013-03/numbers-americas-most-expensive-fighter-ever-infographic For those who think it is too much to pay a fraction of the cost of *one plane* in order to provide the last line of defense for our President, I'd say that you are fools.

No they are not. The forest (spelled correctly) is the total budget: http://visual.ly/death-taxes-2012 And morons pick out a microscopic expense, claiming it is an example of overspending, while ignoring the trillions of dollars that are being blown on things like the last two wars, the bank bailout, and corporations who pay an average 12% tax rate: http://www.sanders.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/102512%20-%20JobDestroyers3.pdf.
