Mercedes-Benz is launching its entry-level CLA-Class in the United States this fall, and you can now build the small, swoopy sedan of your dreams using the automaker's online configurator. Right now, your choices are limited to the front-wheel-drive CLA250 model, though Mercedes-Benz will be offering the CLA with 4Matic all-wheel drive not long after, as well as the hotter-than-hot CLA45 AMG.

On the base end, the CLA250 starts at $30,825 (including $925 for destination), but things can move up quickly from there. A total of 10 color choices are available, including the Universe Blue Metallic ($720) you see above, and three different wheel options are available, measuring 17 inches on the base end (pictured), and 18 inches as you move upmarket.

Specific options include a $2,000 sport package, which gets you an added kick of aggressive styling, and things like a panoramic sunroof ($1,480) and a lighting package with xenon headlamps and LED taillamps ($850). Inside, there's a leather upholstery package available ($1,500), as well as the usual premium and multimedia packages ($2,200 and $2,370, respectively). Tick every option, and you'll run a few grand shy of $50,000. Woof.

Head over to Mercedes' website to build your very own CLA250.

I don't like the FWD A4. I do like the AWD A4. I suspect I'd like the AWD CLA, but honestly would rather have a MK7 GTI.

37k with the options I would pick. Oh well, rather get a Mk7 GTI then which I suspect would be more like 27k.

I'm curious - why do they charge extra for colors? Is it magical paint that make the car invisible?

It's Mercedes, so the air inside the cabin is extra. Mercedes recommends you only replace it with genuine Mercedes cabin air or the warranty will be voided.

man, so much hate for this car. look people, it's a mercedes. it's not a hyundai, it's not a kia or a buick or whatever. you're paying for a luxury car, and a damn attractive one. it's gotten excellent reviews, and it will surely entice people. I think that getting this car for mid 30's nicely optioned is a steal. if you've got a family and are going to piss and moan about the backseat, then this car clearly isn't for you. i can guarantee you that this will be a huge hit among 20 to 30-somethings. the design is excellent, it's got the right badge on the front, and the fuel economy should be right.

The right badge? Is that the main reason for buying the car? There's more to cars that just the badge on the front....

I understand that but like it or not, people buy a 5 series over an Equus for a reason.

I don't really understand the point of this car in FWD configuration. If you're looking for luxury, you can get the same features and creature comforts in cheaper FWD cars. If you're looking for driving dynamics, you're better off getting a car with RWD. I guess if you just want something expensive, this will work.

That is what almost killed Jaguar about 7 or 10 years ago: the low-end models made to attract a "new" customer base. And it did attract buyers who thought it would be prestigious to be seen riding in a new Jaguar..

Great I just optioned it up the way I would want it and the bankruptcy total is $57K!!! Now a Kia Cadenza with similar features fully optioned is $41K, has more interior room and twice as much warranty...so I'll pass on the CLA

Naah...I just placed a down payment today to lease for 4 yrs the V6 Cadenza...I find the Kias more sporty than Hyundais and I refuse to pay $40K+ for an overboosted 4-cylinder from any manufacturer, so I guess you were wrong... ;-)

I just priced one with the sport package, leather pkg, and metallic paint and it came to over $37,000... For that price, though... I'd definitely much rather have a BMW 320i w/ sports package and call it a day.

Wow. You can get this thing to 40K+ quite easily without even going for blind spot detection and other frippery you might find in an Accord EX-L. So much for the affordable Mercedes breakthrough car for the younger market blah blah. Why would you buy this over an A4 Quattro or 328i sport package? If you want a FWD, near-luxury car with modern features you are in a whole other space, where you are talking about a Regal GS, CC, TSX, etc that you can get loaded for less than 40K. Yes, if you gotta have the badge, and can't swing more than 30K, I guess this is your thing. You can ride on viinyl seats, with no sunroof, non-Xenons, on 17s, and feel like you really made it I guess.
