Jaguar's new F-Type is a pretty potent little pouncer. And while we do love a good roadster, many of us at Autoblog are perhaps more excited about the upcoming hardtop version of Jag's stylish new entry-level sports car. Why? Because even here in heavily camouflaged prototype form, the thing looks really, really good – the sleek roofline blending rather nicely into the F-Type's shapely rump, allowing for better distinction of its pronounced hips over the rear wheel wells.

Mechanically speaking, the F-Type Coupe should be identical to its droptop sibling. That means the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8 engine lineup should carry over unchanged, though we've heard rumors about a four-cylinder application as well. There's also talk of hotter R, R-S or R-S GT models coming down the pipeline, and based on what we've experienced in things like the XKR-S, we certainly can't deny the allure of such a model.

It's unclear exactly when Jaguar will show the production F-Type Coupe (at the Frankfurt Motor Show, perhaps?), but the car is expected to go on sale sometime in 2014. Check it out in our latest spy gallery, above.

4-cylinder turbo with a manual transmission could make a Jag fan out of me. It would be hard to buy the odd-looking Coxster with this beauty as a worthy competitor.

Imagine the V8 with a manual. That would be Europe's best muscle car.

This car is outrageously gorgeous. I believe this design will age well, and I\'m excited to see this car being made into a coupe.

I actually didn't like pics i saw of this online when it first came out. then i was driving around and saw one in the dealership showroom and checked it out... totally changed my mind and found this to be one sexy beast. can't wait to see the coupe in the flesh.

That car looks fantastic. I'm in love with the front end. And the rear looks just as good. It'd actually be one of the few convertibles I'd be okay driving.

This car had me at hello. To be honest, the whole current Jaguar lineup is pretty gorgeous but this thing is incredible looking. I've seen one (twice) around San Francisco already and it looks just as good in person as it does in pictures. Even it better than it looks is how it sounds - it's an auditory mix of classic and modern. I can't wait to see if this coupe shaves a little weight and stiffens the car further. Something people don't realize about Jaguars is how well balanced the current crop is. They just make you feel so good to drive.

Nice! Although it'll be heavier than the Porsche 911, but who cares when it's got so much charisma!

It looks as (or more-) claustrophobic as a Camaro. I'd take a Cayman any day.

It looks like a 1990's Mitsubishi Eclipse/Eagle Talon. Saw the roadster version on the road the other day for the first time and it wasn't terribly impressive looking; the taillights looked contrived and cartoonish. But the Jag-exec driving it was desperate for a reaction as he drove by.

The F-Type is a nice looking car, roadster or coupe, but comparing it to the early E-Type is likening a brick to a swan. They're just not in the same league.. Jaguar design could have done better.

i dont think its sexy at all. will never stand up to the test of wise. It boring and nothing special looking. EPIC FAIL.

If this car is not sexy to you then what is?...A Nissan Cube?

Yes!!! The coupe looks 1000x better than the already good looking convertible. I was afraid they wouldn't come out with a coupe version.
