In its ultimate mortal guise, the Audi A1 Black Edition - the littlelest little guy Audi makes - costs 22,340 pounds ($33,705 US) in the UK and comes with a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder that outputs, at most, 182 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The Audi A1 Quattro - still employing the body of the littlelest little guy Audi makes - costs more than 41,020 pounds ($61,888 US) gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder from the Audi TTS with 252 hp and 258 lb-ft. And quattro. And 17-inch, center-locking, white wheels.

The crew at XCAR gets the A1 Quattro on video, to both question how the A1 Quattro happened and then to praise it even if they never found the answer. The hosannas come too late for anyone in the UK who was waffling about buying one, however, since all 19 meant for the 'sceptered isle are sold out. You can see what we missed out on in the video below.

He says 'tiny car, massive engine rarely works.' Well that's true when you have a lack of traction and a lack of balance. When you have tiny, power, traction and balance all together, it works brilliantly.

$60k buys you a WRX and a metric crap-ton of mods. Just sayin'.

Or a Mustang GT and a WRX. Or a friggin' S6. Or a CTS V-Power AWD, if you can hold your horses for a few months.

If you adjust the cost of a CTS-V (n the UK) from Pounds to Dollars, the same way AB did for the A! (which is so stupid) it would "cost" $130,346....

Assuming, just assuming you could even buy a WRX in the UK (where the AB cost figures came from), it would cost the equivalent of 40K not assuming any other gas guzzler or additional VAT charges. Your methodology is bad (and so is AB, you would think they would know better). For example: UK Audi S4: 39,020GBP (same as $59,139USD) US Audi S4: $47,600 (same as31,406GBP That's roughly an 11.5kUSD diff or 8.5kGBP (a 24% up charge in the UK). So in reality the A1 Quattro, a limited edition, non-massed produced, collectible car would cost 49.7K USD if it were offered in the US.

So, the choice you're presenting is between one of the ugliest cars available versus one of the best-looking cars. Hmmm... WRX is for losers.

This is my dream car. Sure, I could get bigger or faster for the money, but I don't really care. The heart wants what the heart wants. (I'd repaint it, though.)

Well for me this car is a silly and ugly underpowered pice of crap, just like the Jeremy Clarkson's imitation performed by the host.

40,000 pounds? That's $60K in US dollars. Wow.......I know cars in Britain are more expensive than in the states but that still seems ridiculous.

You would be the only one to buy this thing: they can't bring a model there just for one person.

I love Audis and odd cars as much as the next guy but paying $60k for something so underwhelming is comical.

Audi A1, especially this one, might look better with a smaller (older) style grille. Brilliant as it is the Focus ST will be almost as good fun on the road and would cost significantly less; not decrying the quality of interiors or big brand identity etc.
