Alpina is hard at work on a new version of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. Spy photographers spotted this machine out on public roads, and while the iconic Alpina wheels, reworked fascia and rear spoiler are the the most obvious tweaks to the long-nosed four-door, we're told the machine will also boast a 100-horsepower jump over the stock 650i Gran Coupe. That should give the Alpina variant around 545 hp, just 15 shy of the ludicrous M6. We wouldn't be surprised to find appropriate suspension and brake upgrades on board as well.

How long will it be before buyers can lay down their cash for one? No clue, but we'll keep you posted. In the interim, dig through the photos above to get a closer look while we start saving our pennies.

Yeah, but that still doesn't make this thing right.

ANYONE who can't appreciate how good this car looks is a hater. You really can't make it any more obvious folks. It's one of the best looking 4-door's on the market after the Rapide, and the way it's selling proves that. If you hate the idea of a sleeker version of a conventional sedan, let's see you hating on the CLS, A5 and A7 "sport backs" too. Either criticise all off the brands doing this or just say you hate BMW but don't diss this car because a) you can't afford it or b) you've got nothing better to do in life.

The car is gorgeous but you have to admit BMW is pushing the price barrier just like MB. They do not have the style or exotic appeal of Aston or Maserati IMHO.

Does not impress me, there are other better options i.e.: Porsche, MB, and A7.

This has placed in front of the MB and A7 from every review that I have read. ****, they out the S7 against the 650i and it wasn't as good. I wonder what the soon to be released M6 would do to the competiton. Here's a recent Motor Trend Shootout: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/1304_audi_s7_bmw_650i_gran_coupe_xdrive_mercedes_benz_cls550_4matic/viewall.html I"f this test were just about pure, back-road capability, the S7 would get the nod. But as the BMW is about 95 percent as capable as the Audi (identical 0.94 max g, too), but offers so much more in desirability, craftsmanship, and that all-important X-factor, we're calling it the winner. As stated, there are no perfect cars. But it's very seldom that I find myself so quick to forgive vehicular flaws. With the BMW Gran Coupe, that's absolutely the case. As such, "The Ultimate Driving Machine" just took on a whole new meaning."

If you forget about the logo, it looks like a $30000 car. Perhaps an extra $5000 for the V8 engine. If you are going to spend more than that, get a good car like Lexus GS or Infiniti M

So let me get this right - this is the Alpina version of a sedan based on a coupe that's based on the 5 series sedan, is that right? BMW has so lost me....

Bad days at a manufacturer when you can't even paint the front lip (or the vehicle Alpina purple for that matter) prior to testing... Oh 21-spoke rims... wow, finally a breathe of fresh air!
