Redesigning an icon is a difficult task, especially when you've got a blank sheet of paper in front of you and the all-new C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is intended to be your final objective.

General Motors has released a new short video featuring Kirk Bennion of the Corvette's exterior design team, talking about the challenges of sculpting Chevrolet's new flagship sports car and the five goals the team had to keep in mind as it worked. In the end, Bennion's team had the pleasure of seeing their hard work take center stage as the Corvette captured the world's eyes at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

Besides styling that wreaks of desperation on the outside, a low rent interior and build quality that will likely be questionable, I like the corvette and you can't knock its performance. I'd rent one.

So... was this the front half designer or the rear half designer?

This should have been done this 8 years ago. They're so behind. Including the "new" interior.

So, looking obese from the A pillar on back was not one of those goals? How about out-uglying the GT-R from the A-pillar on back?

I actually this car at the NY Auto show, I like it better than its photos. Nothing about this car is obese.

I know it's very difficult to come with a design that is not similar to something else in one area or the other, still it seems this Corvette is too much Ferrari-ish

"Corvette is too much Ferrari-ish" Only when it is dressed in red and black.

Agreed. No DCT is a major GM fail in general.

It has at least half a foot of useless length. The C6 was better proportioned.

Great looking car. Can't wait to read the first reviews and see them on the road. The C7 is kind of like the new CTS... when you see the next-gen model, it instantly makes the previous design look down right old.

seriously? The C7 looks like something that could have been released in 2008...

Red is the WRONG colour for this car, it diminishes the effect of the accents like the red tail lights, bumper and fender reflectors, and emphasizes the black vents too much. I saw a grey example at the auto show, and it looks stunning.

Totally agree on the grey color.

You don't need to age yourself to feel like it's time for your midlife crisis. It's ok to own this awesome car at any age. =)

Here we have yet another failed attempt to justify the fact that he screwed up big time on the design and GM's pride is getting in the way of admitting this until after these sit on dealer lots in favor of something else, maybe a Camaro, Chevy SS or a CTS-V- But hey, the good part about it is, I'll just keep my 60+ grand in my pocket while driving around in my sexy C6 convertible Grand Sport, and this is not a bad combination to have- :-)
