  • 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition

Ford has pulled the wraps off its anticipated 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition model, a new variant of the popular street-legal off-road specialist. In a nutshell, the "special" is all cosmetic – there are no mechanical upgrades to the truck and its 6.2-liter V8 (411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque), Torsen limited-slip differential, beadlock-capable wheels and internal triple-bypass FOX Racing Shox dampers all remain untouched.

The SVT Raptor Special Edition, which adds cosmetic enhancements to the existing Luxury Package, will be offered in Ruby Red Metallic and Tuxedo Black Metallic with box-side graphics. The interior upgrades include Brick Red seat bolsters (with black inserts), cloth honeycomb highlights and a console top finish panel.

As of now, Ford has only release a couple pictures of the Special Edition model. But check back later, as we will update the gallery when additional high-res images are released later today, and be sure to peruse the press release below for all the details.

[Ford has released seven images - all have been added to the gallery.]

Ford Announces New 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition

* New Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition answers customer calls for more exclusivity in addition to Raptor's unmatched off-road capability
* Raptor Special Edition features a unique exterior color, exterior graphics and interior styling
* Raptor Special Edition helps continue Raptor's sales success

DEARBORN, Mich., April 9, 2013 – Ford's F-150 SVT Raptor, the ultimate high-performance off-road pickup truck, has a new Special Edition package customers can order that adds more unique touches to the hot-selling pickup.

Ford today reveals the 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition, which adds unique new touches to Raptor's existing Luxury Package, including a Ruby Red Metallic exterior color and box-side graphics. Interior upgrades include Brick Red seat bolsters with black inserts and cloth honeycomb highlights, console top finish panel, and center stack and door panel appliqué accents. Raptor Special Edition is also available in Tuxedo Black Metallic.

The 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition goes on sale this fall.

"Raptor owners are looking for a high-performing, uncompromising off-road pickup truck with the features and luxuries found in today's premium trucks," said Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager. "Since its launch in 2009, we've continually moved Raptor forward in capability and design, and the 2014 Special Edition is the best Raptor yet."

Raptor has found an enviable niche in full-size pickups. SVT Raptor sales are up 14 percent in 2013, with five out of the past six months seeing record sales. More than 13,000 Raptors were sold in 2012.

SVT Raptor prowess and power
Since launching as a 2010 model, the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor has set the benchmark for low- and high-speed off-road performance through aggressive all-terrain tires, industry-exclusive internal triple-bypass FOX Racing Shox™ dampers, skid plates and standard Hill Descent Control™.

A Raptor development imperative has been continuous improvement, so Ford expanded Raptor's footprint for 2011 with a four-door SuperCrew model joining the two-door SuperCab original.

For 2012 Ford began offering a grille-mounted camera to improve driver visibility when climbing over rocks or other obstacles. The 2012 addition of a Torsen® limited-slip differential to Raptor's 4WD system enables the truck to balance traction between both front wheels.

For 2013 industry-exclusive beadlock-capable wheels were added to help increase grip in low-traction conditions, along with high-intensity discharge headlamps for improved visibility. SYNC® with MyFord Touch® was also made available for added connectivity.

SVT Raptor is available exclusively with a 6.2-liter V8 engine producing best-in-class 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to an electronic six-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode and SelectShift Automatic® functionality. The 4WD system features electronic shift-on-the-fly capability for the transfer case.

The front axle features a Torsen® differential with 4.10 to 1 gearing. The rear axle is also 4.10 to 1, with an electronic-locking differential.

If I didn't know better, I'd say this was some kind of send-off for the Raptor (which, seeing as an all new F150 is due in the next year or so, makes sense).

I'd say you're right. Maybe the SVT Raptor won't be back for the next generation F-150...

Ford is selling every one they can build, and they\'re already building more than they originally projected. They\'d be silly not to carry it over onto the next generation F-150...

So, just like the regular "stick on fenders" Raptor, this is all cosmetic. Ok, got it.

I don\'t think that\'s necessarily true. I mean, the only logical explanation for his nonsense is that he thinks he\'s funny. I don\'t think someone can actually be that obtuse (and function in society) as to really believes all the stuff he posts. He\'s just being \"That Guy\" so we can laugh at him...

Why the hell would y'all want an ecoboost in a raptor? That's prety retarded! It's suppose to sound like and be a beast! The ecoboost would sound like ****. Plus you want reliability with a desert truck and the ecoboost would not really deliver in that department with two little temperamental turbos. And another special edition ford... That's not very special. Ford has way to many special editions as it is. This truck is turning into a joke. 90% of the raptors out there are driven by preppy ppl that don't know jack when it comes to off road trucks. And then there's the ones that think their raptor is a full blown trophy truck. These truck aren't special anymore. You can't drive 2 miles without seeing atleast two.

Umm they ran a version of the raptor w Ecoboost in Baja 1000. Sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about

Temperamental turbos? Have you seen the part where they subjected that engine to all manner of torture tests for days on end? And for that matter turbo engines can sound just fine. For that matter, if you really want performance in your quasi Trophy Truck, who gives a **** about the engine note? A smaller, forced induction engine can bring the rather impressive curb weight down a bit, helping the truck\'s power to weight ratio, improving the handling and braking, while still providing V8 power. So really, why wouldn\'t you want an EcoBoost Raptor?

I'd love an Ecoboost in a Raptor. Specifically a 5.0L Ecoboost with about 600hp and a pool table flat torque curve.

Let me tell ypu something about ford, and I am a loyal ford owner. We have three, two truckes and one suv,Ford enginers have let fords light bulb burn out. They are no longer building ford to last like they did 10 years ago.Now they are guilding them to ware out,One of our trucks has over 400,000 mi. on it has had a motor rebuild ,the 99 F250 has has 235,500 mi. on it and has never had any major problems. So you people needto get your jeads out of your asses and start to build reiiable trucks again.

As a loyal Ford owner I have owned Ford trucks for 15+ years...I have never had problems with any of them I do however know that build quality 10 years ago was a huge problem at Ford and lead to the realignment of assets about 7 years ago. Ever since then they have had the top producing vehicles in build quality and vehicle sales not to mention some of the best new/innovative designs of models on the road in my opinion .

To anyone complaining about the lack of EcoBoost in the Raptor: if you can afford this truck in the first place, you can probably afford to feed it. You want a fuel efficient off-roader? 95-04 Tacoma.

The EcoBoost is a marketed as a 'green' alternative. There is nothing 'green' about the Raptor. It makes no sense to pair them together unless you drop the EcoBoost branding.

Then pay somebody to do it. The 6.2 is perfect for the Raptor, the EcoBoost isn't. Complaining about fuel economy in a truck like this is like buying a Ferrari and complaining about about the same thing (or how noisy it is).

All there guys wanting the eco prob havent driven Raptors. The eco is awesome and it would be cool in the raptor, however I would still pick the 6.2...much more room to grow. Turn a ecoboost up all you and you still wont keep up with a Whippled 6.2. The ecoboost is strong (my dad had one), but it would still get beaten by my raptor stock vs stock!

          @jlauth
So let me guess this straight, you're telling me that a truck that already has 60+hp more, would make more power if you supercharged it rather than just tuning the Ecoboost? What a shocking revelation.

Ignorance is bliss! Not everyone wants better fuel economy because it costs too much. Some people want to cut down the amount of time they have to stop and fill up their truck. And what do you care, it isn't your money anyways.
