The classic car-versus-motorcycle comparison is put to the test as Autocar pits a 2013 Audi R8 V10 against the Ducati Diavel in a run from 0-150-0 miles per hour. While you might expect the 162-horsepower Ducati weighing just 515 pounds to blow away the 542-horse, 3,500-pound Audi, this particular test measures the acceleration and braking of both high-performance machines.

Drag racing an Audi R8 against a Ducati on a long, flat stretch of concrete sounds fun to us, and Autocar documented the whole test for our viewing pleasure. We don't want to spoil the fun for you, so let's just say that a Volkswagen-owned brand wins. Scroll down to watch the video for yourself.

This is why I love motorcycles. I could never afford a any supercar, but I can afford a motorcycle that will match or beat most any stock auto in any street light to street light grand prix and also be more fun (if not faster) on a twisty road. They are both awesome rides though. The Diavel is quite a brick though in the aerodynamics department :) Any current superbike would have been a better showing for the 2 wheeled world. Oh well it IS a car enthusiast mag after all. Love cars and bikes but I know which is more fun :)

I have a 2012 Diavel with a mini front wind shield Sure it will blow through 150 Holding on at that speed is the trick I swear my arms get longer and longer

Try it with a Panigale R. The Diavel is ,well, a cruiseresque sport bike er.....just sat on A Diavel today and can't really love it. The Panigale R is about 100 lbs lighter and 25 to 30 HP stronger.

Still, in terms of power to weight the "cruiseresque" Diavel murders the R8, and below triple digit speed accelerates way harder. But the Audi has less drag and thus closes the gap at higher speeds and its better braking make it really close, and thus interesting. A Panigale R would probably dust even a Veyron to 150, and it would be over before it even started for the Audi. Obvious result=less entertaining.

Both are nice, Can drive the R8 all year round though. That friggin car has some neck breaking speed, I recently drove the V10 at an Audi Event up on the Racetrack in New Jersey. Made me wish I had a better job or at least hit the lottery.

Kind of a dumb test only because a Diavel is a very poor choice to ride up to 150mph. Just because it can do that doesn't mean it's a good candidate, extremely poor wind-protection for speeds beyond, say 120mph. Should've been a 1199 vs. R8 V10.

How is it a dumb test? It was a very good match up, sure you could moan about how the bike lost by 0.1 seconds, but it was a really good and fair comparison. What the bike lacks in aerodynamics and braking it makes up for in acceleration.

All you guys complaining about this and the way it was done, how a bike is faster, how this was a stupid test etc. don't get the point. This isn't a fun test of who would win, this is an Audi commercial. Look up who owns Ducati and it will become glaringly clear to you.

Yes, I think most AB readers know who owns Ducati. That is why I wondered why not a Panigale R. Top sporting Duc and top sporting Audi. The quickest (acceleration) stock motorcycle is ,by far, the Kawasaki ZX14R. Very skilled riders have strapped down the front suspension and posted close to 9 flat in the 1320 @ around 160. Lightly modded ones are into the high 8\'s.

Even though they are kind of pointless I like watching these videos.

Even jumping to a new point in the video and trying to watch from there it was boring.

Would be nice to see the Underground Racing Lamborghini Aventador go up against this!

Put it up against a Mr Turbo ZX14. A stock 14 could probably put it away though.

Car vs Bike. Aero vs no aero. Braking vs less braking. The true test is the best bike technology versus the best car technology on the same tracks. MotoGp versus Formula 1 on the shared tracks. The MotoGP bikes are not as fast as the Formula 1 cars. All about traction and braking. Driver/rider skills? Let's face it, they all have much bigger cajones than you or I.
