CAR reports Maserati may benefit from the introduction of Enzo-succeeding Ferrari LaFerrari (shown below). According to unnamed parties, Maserati is keen to create a successor for the MC12 (above) based on the bones of the new Ferrari.

Details are about as scarce as they come, but CAR reckons Maserati has a few options when it comes to building its own supercar. Those include using the suspension, chassis and electrical systems of the Ferrari but with a unique carbon fiber body and without the LaFerrari's hybrid system. The new take on the MC12 could use a detuned version of the 6.3-liter V12 from the LaFerrari or stick a quad-turbo 3.8-liter V8 behind the front seats.

The latter option could see the next MC12 yield up to 900 horsepower, putting it within reach of its cousin as well as hardware like the McLaren P1. Of course, all of this – including our fanciful name in the headline – is just speculation for the time being. CAR says that if the machine makes its way to production, it would could cost well over $1.3 million.

MC12, great car. I remember watching this video awhile ago about this car who bought one. One of the greatest supercar owners ever. Bought it, drove it the same day in the snow and ice, crashed it a little and did not even care kept on driving it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCm31-SqIjk

That would be great , the MC12 was Epic. And it would be nice if not all Maserati used Pentastar Chrysler engines going forward.

I rather see a small Maserati like from the 80's with a V6 twin turbo in sedan and coupe.

I'd like the car, but that name makes me want to throw up. Ferrari is just too in love with itself these years. All the marketing and branding. The treatment of dissenting journalists. I haven't seen a properly great looking car from them since the F355. Since then their mentality seems to be - Ignor the fans, we'll build what we want and the badge always makes our cars beautiful. Then the name LaFerrari. They might as well have named it LaMontezemolo. Because the brand has been going downhill since he became head.

downhill? far as I can tell, they're doing very well with more models on sale than ever before. They have expanded their brand to a bunch more markets successfully and are selling cars like hotcakes To me, that sounds like the brand is doing very well....They're making more money than ever before. Is that not the primary goal of any business?

I really hope you are not that shallow and simple minded. They are doing well, very well financially. But that's my point: They are sacrificing the long term brand value for short term profits. This is subjective, but its pretty clear Ferrari is slowly losing its cachet to other emerging supercar brands. As a car enthusiast , I think the soul of a car and brand is what matters. Unfortunately most people and businesses sell out their souls in exchange for more sales and profits these days. But if I had to point that out to you.....

I thought the LaFerrari name was a joke. Are they really going to call it that?

I think you all misunderstood. There will be a special Southern California edition of the new Italian supercar for rich producers, actors, and directors, the LAFerrari.

I see the new Ferraris and I don't lust over them like the f355 and earlier cars. I think in their struggle with Lamborghini they forgot that Ferrari is beautiful. Leave Lambo to do brutal-they do thatbetter anyway. I'd like to see a proper Maserati GT that isn't super heavy. Something like the 60s twin cam six gts. Oh and I know Kim Kardashian can't drive a manual, but at least make it an option.
