The entry-level Mercedes-Benz C-Class has long felt like nothing more than, well, just that. Aside from the potent and delicious C63 AMG models, there hasn't been much to set the C-Class apart in the entry-level luxury/sport segment, leading to the model being regarded by many as "The Cheap Mercedes." No, it's certainly not a bad car, but for our money, it hasn't stood up particularly well to competitors like the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4.

So with the handsome new CLA-Class coming to round off the entry-level end for Mercedes-Benz, big plans are in store for the C-Class. We can see some evidence of that in this latest set of spy shots from our friends at CarPix. According to earlier reports, the new C-Class will be "far more dramatic" in the visuals department, and while the sedan's sculpting is still covered by camo, the much sleeker headlamp design we see here is, at the very least, a good start. The car's overall size is expected to grow a bit to further distance itself from the CLA, though thanks to lightweight materials, curb weight isn't expected to increase.

Just like the current model, the new C-Class is expected to use four- and six-cylinder engines, both gas- and diesel-fed, and overall power output for the global engine range should span from 120-ish on the low end to as much as 330. These new engines are expected to be mounted lower and farther rearward than before, offering better balance for both rear- and 4Matic all-wheel drive configurations. And as for that AMG? Rumors suggest a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 will fall underhood.

Expect the next C-Class to debut either later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, or more likely, at next March's Geneva Motor Show.

It will debut at Geneva or maybe Detroit next year. Can't wait to see it since it has to move upwards now because of the CLA. M

It hasn't held up well compared to 3 series and A4... I always thought it was a follower and poser mobile for badge ******. Harsh I know but it's true. I respect mb but the c class always disappointed me.

I still cannot get used to the extra high hood lines due to EU pedestrian crash standards. But it's here to stay. Hopefully the final product looks a bit more cohesive than the latest BMW 3 series.

With the 3-series looking better, is faster, more fuel efficient, less expensive, and just as safe, there really isn't a reason to buy the C class unless you really want a Mercedes-Benz. After spending some time selling these things, I think MB should make the lighting package much more abundant (it's very difficult to find C-classes with bi-xenon headlamps right now) and include a little more standard equipment. Also, I feel like they should make the 350 trim more abundant as well.

I am an Audi fanboy, so you can't criticize me for loving MB. But as far as looks go, the BMW is easily the ugliest in it's class (outdone only by the new Lexus IS), and the interior materials are why it is less expensive- the quality of a BMW interior is sorely lacking to its competitors. The luxury of a Merc is also higher, rivaling that of Audi. Although I will give credit where it is due- the 3 series does have great driving dynamics.

Idk about 3ers but when you compare a 6er GC to an A7 the audi feels like its sorely lacking in the interior department. I mean the dash is still hard rubber or plastic. Put some leather on that already!! I could care less about cheap ones like the 3er but BMW provides the class and luxury where it's required. In the 6 and 7 series.

The 6-Series GC and the CLS are more expensive because they're just overpriced.

Oh and as far as cheap goes I guess that's why the A7 costs $30k less than a comparable 6er and also less than the CLS. Talk about cheap cars man. Ouch

Yes, you must be an Audi fanboy. I just spent weeks agonizing over the purchase of a car in this group, and it was the 328i Sport Line interior that won me over compared to the A4 and ATS. The previous generation A4 was better. (The C250 was not even a consideration given the engine's lack of performance and fuel economy.)

They do offer the coupe with the 6.2L V-8 in the ludicrously priced C63 AMG Black Series.
