Rumors of an entry-level, BMW 3 Series-fighting Jaguar sedan have been floating around for quite some time, but thanks to our intrepid spy photographers, we now have visible proof that such a model is, in fact, in the works.

Despite this tester's XF fittings, it's clear that what lies beneath is an entirely different beast. The doors have been shortened, roofline adjusted, rear deck lopped off and exhaust replaced, giving us a better idea of the new sedan's smaller dimensions and details. The new Jag, which may be dubbed "XS," is expected to ride on Jaguar's PLA (Premium Lightweight Architecture) platform, touting weight-saving materials that should do a lot to keep overall heft to a minimum. Both turbocharged four- and supercharged six-cylinder powertrains are expected to be on tap.

Codenamed X760, the new small sedan will reportedly hit the market in 2015. Earlier reports have indicated that a new crossover – Jag's first ever – riding on the same platform will arrive shortly thereafter, so that suggests that the platform will be fitted with all-wheel drive as well.

If this Kitty turns out only half as gorgeous as its XF big sister it will still be 5 times better looking than her German and Asian competition. I know this is only a mule, but, it would be awesome if the back of the production model turns out as smooth and curvy instead of the requisite puffy bumper with black, plastic, dangly bits.

Considering Jaguar is recycling body panels from other cars in their line, this mule looks pretty good. While the body is inherently misleading, the mule's proportions are quite appealing, but I fear the rear seat may be ATS small and that could hurt sales with young professionals who are planning to start families or have small children and need room for a car seat or two. I look forward to seeing future developments on this car and seeing test mules with real body work.

This thing looks pretty good as is. They could pretty much just throw the grille and whatnot back on it and it would be a very good looking car.

Ohhhh, I like this. Good move, Jag. Bring it on but just get rid of those expensive rotating vents, that shift \"knob\", and give us a normal stick and paddles instead, please.

Holy ****!!!! That's nice looking I'll take mine with awd please......and the xtype wasn't THAT bad . Sure it used but from the mondeo but you have to remember the mondeo was a very good car...there was nothing wrong with using the awd from....the cougar came from that chassis too and it handled very well, at least the sport version....sure there was a gremlin living under the hood, but that had nothing to do with the mondeo

I am glad to see Jaguar is developing an entry in this segment. I'm excited to see it. They can skip the crossover, though.

This reminds me of the hunt for the Bismarck. The English had a few misses and took losses but they were relentless.

Happy to hear it is based on its own platform and not a Mondeo, mistake

I think it looks good. I wonder if they can price it right. With the amount of compitition in the segment i doubt they can get an extra 10 g\'s for the badge.
