PS4 game DriveClub - screencap of Mercedes CLA AMGSony held a big event last night where many thought it would debut its next-next-next-gen console system, the Playstation 4. As it turns out, Sony both did and didn't debut the PS4, choosing to keep the console's design a secret for now while premiering the new controller's look, a new Kinect-like camera peripheral and the machine's basic hardware specs.

The other thing that got a lot of attention were games, one of which previewed during the event was DriveClub, a new racing game franchise by Evolution Studios that will launch with the PS4 this holiday season. The studios prior highlights include developing World Rally Championship games for the PS2 and Motorstorm for the PS3. The teaser vid for DriveClub can be watched below, and while it looks darn good, these sorts of vids aren't always accurate representations of what the actual gameplay graphics will look like.

From what we've heard and can tell from the video, DriveClub will look and work just like the other major racing game franchises, namely the Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport series. It's reported, however, that DriveClub will be able to support hundreds of drivers and that it's graphical detail goes down to a car's "microscopic" flecks of paint.

As for the cars that will be included, we see a number of vehicles in the teaser video, including the Hennessey Venom GT, BAC Mono and Pagani Huayra, among others. Mercedes-Benz has even issued a press release announcing that the CLA45 AMG and A45 AMG will be in the game and included the first official shot of the former done up in the game's photorealistic graphics.

So what say you Playstation users? Does DriveClub look like it can give the grand-daddy of next-gen racing games, Gran Turismo, a run for its money on Sony's console?

MERCEDES-BENZ CLA 45 AMG AND A 45 AMG IN NEW DRIVECLUB™ RACING GAME

Stuttgart/New York. In New York yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) presented Driveclub a brand new racing franchise developed exclusively for Playstation 4 by Evolution Studios. The car line-up in this pioneering game, which conveys better than ever before the heart and soul of motor racing and the passion it inspires, includes several exceptional sports cars from Mercedes-Benz – first and foremost among them the new CLA 45 AMG and the new A 45 AMG. Both these high-performance vehicles will be celebrating their real-world premiere in March 2013. Driveclub and the new Playstation 4 console will be launching this holiday season.

Playstation 4 is SCEI's next generation computer entertainment system that redefines rich and immersive gameplay with powerful graphics and speed, intelligent personalisation, deeply integrated social capabilities, and innovative second-screen features. Driveclubis the perfect fit for the lifestyle of the next generation of PlayStation gamers: an exhilarating, visceral and highly socially connected racing experience that showcases the immense capabilities of Playstation 4. Driveclub is a networked game to be played in real clubs, encouraging players to team up and to collaborate and compete with one another while experiencing the thrill of driving the best cars in the world, on the best roads in the world. The audiovisual quality of the cars and the tracks is staggering, and the view from the cockpit is absolutely true to life, immersing the player in every race and recreating the power and the drama that they would feel if they were actually sitting in the driver's seat.

As well as the CLA 45 AMG and the A 45 AMG, further vehicles with the three-pointed star will join Driveclub.

Firing up the world's most powerful four-cylinder production engine

In March the A 45 AMG will be presented at the Geneva auto show. With this new family member Mercedes-AMG will for the first time be offering a high-performance vehicle in the compact class segment. The AMG-Version of the new four-door Coupé, the CLA, is celebrating its world premiere in New York. With a peak output of 265 kW (360 hp) and a maximum torque of 450 newton metres, its turbocharged AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is the world's most powerful four-cylinder power unit in series production. The power density of 133 kW (181 hp) surpasses even that of the most powerful super sports cars. At the same time they excel with outstanding efficiency, while also meeting the EU6 emissions standard. The A 45 AMG and the CLA 45 AMG are equipped as standard with the fully variable, performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

This already has more realistic engine noise than GT5.

The first rule of Drive Club is that you do not talk about Drive Club.

Considering this is an arcade style racer, I would say that it doesn't compare to GT at all. And why must it always be a "this game vs. that game" comparison whenever a new game is shown? How about you just buy them all and love them all equally?

This is a tech demo game like PGR3 was.

Considering how the graphics evolved on the PS3 and Xbox 360, give these games about 3 years and they're going to be mind-blowing. And the graphics above are very impressive to me.

Yea I thought they were good as well. Certainly ahead of what's out now. Granted, not all of it was actual game play footage so we'll have to see. Trailers can be deceiving. I did see actual gameplay footage from another PS4 game and that looked very impressive for the most part.

The PS3 just hit it`s stride. I think people will tire of investing in video games. As for Sony, Boy have the mighty fallen!

PS4 and VITA in combination will most likely rule the next gen. most of the developers think this way, so onewayroll is right. you either just are a fanboy, didn't watch the presentation at all or....just don't have a clue.

This looks decent, but i'd really like to see some actual gameplay. As for people comparing this to GT6, wake up. This game will be old news when GT6 comes around... That's not based on GT6 blowing it away, that's based on the date of its released. i'm thinking now the # at the end of Gran Turismos games refers to the # of years it takes to build :P.

That by far was one of the weakest console releases I have ever seen. I watched the entire live stream to see what this thing was going to look like and guess what. NOTHING. LOL!!! Just when I thought there was no way they could do worse than the PS3 intro they top it with a no show PS4 launch. And the games didn\'t really impress.

for a first tease it was mighty impressive. in contrary to micro$oft sony always focused on the player and that's what they did this time. how the final box will look is kinda irrelevant. the actual design will be presented @ E3 as will alot of other games from missing developers/publishers like naughty dog, EA, bethesda. it seems the PS4 will be very very powerful, with 8GB GDDR5 RAM much more hightech than anyone expected and most likely ahead of the upcoming xbox. btw if these games didn't impress you i wonder what you were expecting.

Most likely ahead of the next xbox? Not a PS fanboy or anything ehh?

And you're probably an Xbox fanboy then. What's the difference? Sure some may own both a PS and Xbox but most are pretty loyal to one console or the other. Then you have the computer games that laugh at both haha.

Game trailers are notorious for overstating the graphics in any video game. IIRC, the trailers for GT5 were awesome too. The game itself, not so much. Focus on the gameplay experience. GT5 fails horribly in that regard. Given my GT5 experience, I\'ll take that PS4 money, buy a $200 Xbox 360 and catch up on all the proprietary Xbox content I\'ve been missing out on since my original Xbox expired several years ago. Forza Horizons looks pretty fun to me and I\'ve been itching to play the Halo franchise again.
