Convertibles make you do funny things. Ask someone if they'd drive a hardtop in near freezing temperatures with all the windows down and they might not even answer, thinking the question so ridiculous. Give that same person a convertible they love and you might just have to ask them to please put the top up even when snow is on the ground.

That guy has to take precautions to enjoy his proclivities, and as this new ad for the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible shows, not everyone understands. Have a watch below, and note that there's just one woman in the minute-long spot, and she's nowhere near the car. Seriously, why didn't VW run this commercial during the Super Bowl?

...And with an old Soviet pop-opera soundtrack...definitely should have been the SuperBowl ad.

Just saw this ad, the song in the background makes it priceless. Volkswagen makes some of the best commercials of all time.

Haha, I liked it. The Jamaican one I thought was OK, but too much talking. IMO, VW's best ads are ones where rarely anything is mentioned.

LOL. I used to drive my Miata top down all Winter (wearing a scarf, gloves, and hat). Was especially fun doing donuts/drifts in parking lots :D

I once took a Mustang convertible snowboarding and I had the top down for the two-hour drive up the mountain. The parking lot attendants made some funny comments and asked me if I was planning on doing donuts on my way home. Actually a pretty comfortable ride with three of the windows up and the heater blasting.

So even VW is acknowledging that no man would ever drive the Beetle Cab in public , at least unmasked.

Yup, that's where I went too. Even the Miata and Fiat 500 is more macho than the new or the new-new beetle.

Yeah, I thought they were embarrassed to drive in a Beetle, especially the convertible. So funny because when the original Beetle that carried through most of the 60s and 70s has the exact opposite effect on men.

On some level I have to chuckle about this commercial. "Now every day is a top down day... that's the power of German engineering." Seems to indicate to me that the top is down because it won't go back up. ;) All kidding aside, I'm surprised this wasn't a Super Bowl commercial.

Ha ha ha, I thought they were wearing ski-masks because any red blooded male wouldn't want to be seen in one!

A great ad. But seriously, hard top people would not necessarily see that question as ridiculous. At least, hard top people with cutouts in the hardtop. As long as there's no precipitation, my sunroof is open all seasons. With heat on high in the winter of course. Wait. Does that cause global warming?

You obviously don't live anywhere there's real winter. Do that in Manitoba...you'll still freeze to death, even with the heat cranked to 11's... Hell there are days I have to pull the shade closed it's so cold just coming through the glass. I'll trade ya...I would like winters like you have. :-)
