Chris Harris took to a snowy stretch of tarmac to get a fingertips-on-the-wheel feel of the Volvo S60 Polestar concept. Harris says the turbocharged sedan with 508 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque – and a manual transmission – is "a study to see if Volvo can get back into the fast-car market." The Polestar S60 concept, one of which was already purchased for $300,000 by a private buyer, is still making the publicity rounds because even Volvo's Chinese owners realize that, as Harris says, "Volvo sold more cars because it made fast cars" like the old 850 T5 Wagon that stormed the British Touring Car Championship in the 1990s.

For reference, Harris compares the blue wonder to the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and its 487 hp and 442 lb-ft. The question is, were Volvo to get the price of a production version of the S60 Polestar to climb way down from its 200,000-pound sticker, could it be worthy competition to the established giants?

You can watch Harris divine the answer via a lot of drifting through the snow and a drag race in the video below.

I like the Polestar because it's just so out of character for a Volvo. And that color is just fantastic.

I just plain love this car. It really shows that the s60 design is one of the best on the market. The body kit is subtle and the flares fit this car well, the wheels are perfect, I wouldnt touch it. I dont know why they cant get something like this, even in limited numbers, under $80 grand.

Agreed- it just flows together just right, without losing its Volvo identity.

Every time I see this car all I think about is how much more badass it'd look with xenons... could they not spend the few extra bucks for the concept...?

I really hope Volvo figures the pricing out; that seems to be the only major road block is pricing it so they make money and so consumers won't be offended.

I seem to recall $150k USD being mentioned. You can buy an AMG S-class for that kind of money.

I don't get why everyone is so hung up on the price?? Ever since this car debuted, I can't even count how many times they mentioned it is a one off car, and that to build ONE AT A ******* TIME IT WOULD COST A CUSTOMER $300k. The reading comprehension on Autoblog is a complete fail. Realistically, this would be priced EXACTLY LIKE ITS COMPETITORS. Notice how the M3, C63, and RS5 are all within the $60-80k range??? Why would this be any cheaper or more expensive?? What is the logic? Outside of that, this is a very competitive car. Well done Volvo.

and the majority of people would probably agree with you and that's part of what makes this car so appealing to the rest of us.

Check this month's Motor Trend. The Polestar absolutely annihilated the laptimes of every other car in that "segment."
