Few things get us as cranked up as a Porsche 911. Generation after generation, this rear-engined oddity has exhilarated our senses, and the new 991 is the most capable iteration yet. Even so, there's a lot to be said for the older models, from their lighter weights and more modest dimensions to their air-cooled thrums.

That elemental vintage Porsche appeal hasn't been lost on Los Angeles-based Singer Vehicle Design, which has endeavored to take the best bits from every generation of 911 and combine them into one impossibly sexy rear-engined machine. Based on a 964 donor car, we knew that a lot of work would need to go into everything from the structure to the bodywork to realize the Singer's cohesive aesthetic and dynamic vision, but we didn't know just how much until we watched this Drive video featuring Chris Harris. The auto journo gets time with the 350-horsepower, Cosworth-motivated coupe on both mountain passes and at the track, but what could be the most interesting thing about the 27-minute-long video is his in-depth plant tour.

Check it out by scrolling below, but not before paging through our new Singer 911 gallery.

Just watched this earlier this morning. This is just an incredible piece of work. Unbelievable level of detail, craftsmanship, and passion on display here. I seriously cannot think of a cooler car. I'd take one of these over any Lambo, Pagain, Ferrari, etc. If I ever won the lottery....

Damn straight man, you said it. Even if someone is not a 911 fan, how could you resist?!

If I had one of these for when it's nice, and an Icon Bronco for winter...I'd be in heaven.

You speak my language. My choice would be this and the Icon FJ 40. Icon and Singer need to team up and make an unstoppable company.

The 'Do-Want' is very strong in this one. Harris is no longer welcome here in SoCal, however, as his habit of crossing into oncoming traffic in our canyons has put many lives at risk and put him on many people's "punch in the face" list. For those kvetching about price: You can't afford one so don't worry about it. Just get yourself an early 911 and start building one yourself. A $300k Singer 911 is great inspiration for a $45k 'Sport Purpose' 911 bearing your own unique fingerprint.

Agree with the sentiments- a gorgeous car with amazing detail. However, I thought the price point was tough when it was estimated at $250k, now it STARTS at high $300s- thats a staggering amount of cash. Then again, I am sure the people they are making those Singer's for don't even blink. Does anyone know if Seinfeld is getting one?

The photos make make great wallpapers, already got mine up.

I am not nearly the 911 fan that Chris is, but I can understand the appeal of the old air cooled Porsches a lot more now. What a fantastic re-imagining of te 964. Harris is the best of the best for my money (ironically, Drive Channel being free). Those guys bring a level of passion for cars that the auto media giants dont even come close to.

If i had the money, i would gladly pay those guys whatever it costs, for the sheer passion and attention to detail they put into their work. The only thing a Pagani has over a Singer is more horse power.
