We've known about the ins and outs of the lovely BMW M6 Gran Coupe for a while now, but that doesn't mean we weren't happy to see the thing in the metal for the first time, here in Detroit.

The M-tuned Gran Coupe utilizes the same 4.4-liter forced-induction V8 that powers both the BMW M6 and the M5, with an output of 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The fast four-door brings up 60 miles per hour in just 4.1-seconds – the same sprint time as the M6 coupe and a few tenths quicker than the M5 – and up to a limited top speed of 155 mph.

We love those performance figures – this is one new Bimmer that we're amped to get some seat time in – though we're not super crazy about the selection of chrome wheels on this particular show car. Tells us what you think about the hotted up Gran Coupe in comments, below.

Why does the steering wheel looks similiar to that of the z4....a much cheaper car...yuck. That would be a deal breaker for me...

I think the title should have been "2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe is ready for your favorite roads *if you want to take 3 other people with you*". I can think of plenty of cars I'd rather do my favorite roads in, and for far less money. Also, I get confused by the 4-door version of a 2-door version of a 4-door car.

Sure the Bimmers are the best looking and have the best suspensions bare none but.... trash on the others?.... let's not forget that we had the pony express on a horse not that long ago and let's be thankful for the super many choices that are available for us to enjoy.... to satisfy the many tastes that abound now....

4.1 seconds? Seems like this thing is a little pudgier than I thought. Not very impressive when the new RS7 and E63 AMG across the hall are hovering around the 3.5s mark. Although it is missing about 50 ft-lb of torque compared to the others. I still dont get the point of a "4 door coupe" version of a coupe (M6) of a sedan (M5), its a circle of niche marketing that has just made the car fat.

I saw this thing on the lot a few days ago. Pictures do not do it justice. The interior is fantastic and it just looks menacing.

id rather have an m5 this car looks a bit awkward to me and the m5 is more practical and the CLS63 is a whopping $30,000 cheaper and that is better in every possible way. also this is audi r8 and maserati gt money this car should be $95,000
