We knew the all-electric Audi R8 E-Tron will never go into widespread production, but reports of its total demise were apparently premature. Last October, word was that the R8 E-Tron project was being put on hold, pending an internal review by Audi's new research and development head, ahead of a launch we thought might be coming in early 2013. It was an appealing vehicle, with dashing looks and a range in the 150-mile zone. It was estimated to take less than five seconds to go from 0-60 miles per hour.

New reports, though, suggest that limited production of the R8 E-Tron might still be possible. Mark Dahncke, product and motorsports communications manager for Audi of America, told AutoblogGreen that, "The R8 E-Tron project may still be continued in a very small volume of cars that has yet to be decided. What has been decided is that it will not be executed on a large scale production basis." Looks like all-electric luxury like the Tesla Model S and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive will have one less competitor to worry about.

Stop covering Audi's BS. It's shameful for them and for you ABG.

Audi counting their chickens before they hatch. Wasn't this the car that Audi proclaimed had taken the fastest "Production" electric lap of the Nurburgring?

That is what it was. But Audi claimed the "production" record. http://www.audimississauga.com/en/articles/audi-r8-e-tron-sets-nrburgring-record/145158/ "On June 26th, the Audi R8 e-tron set a world record for a production vehicle with an electric drive system on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, posting a time of 8:09.099 minutes. Sad to see! But I suppose if it was going to be the Lexus LF-A of EVs anyways...that it isn't a huge loss.

Seriously reading about these German automakers plans on EVs and hybrids is a complete waste of time.

Tesla model S Refined, designed as EV. Range 160, 230 or even 300 miles. up to 7 seats and fast charge. not to forget front and rear trunk. Audi - No mass production 150 miles, limited space. but that is not the problem. the few cars on the road (audi training facility for HighVoltage training) are great looking. and fast. So I bet there would be definitely some interest of premium buyers. but I bet this is another fake statement of audi. a few months later Autoblog will post. SURPRISE R8 etron AXED. this is sad - It is a good looking EV.

Happy New Year 2013, beloved AutoBlog Green, ..... But you missed the extra details on that DREAM CAR news (Its concepts inspired me as "car-of-the-future" best dream a few years ago... before Audi dropped all eTron innovations and returned to useless ridiculous 1st and 2nd Gen Hybrids...). From a French WEB today (Turbo.fr) it is said that Audi would add a model with a lithium-ion battery of 48,6 kWh feeding 2 x Electric engines, totalling 381hp at 820 Nm. Full EV autonomy will be 215 km (#130M) with maxi speed of 200 km/h (#120M), making 0 à 100km/h or 60M in 4,2 seconds, and requiring 12H for a complete charge on a standard 220V socket, much less on a better car plug (Like #2 hours with my dream 22KWH German charger via a Minnekes plug). No world on the Range Extender here, that for me remains mandatory (The sole Tesla "miss" for me), and where I expect INNOVATIONS from vendors, like usage of new compact non-tracting Micro-Turbines or smaller rotative engines... But this full electric drive train at least makes a "decent" platform vs a Tesla S or X, although still well below its 85KWH top notch battery.... Now we need that Drive train with a range Extender in a Qx SUV, before BMW puts it in an X6 or X4...

I would take a Tesla Model S anytime over the Audi , and probably save a couple of hundred thousand euros in the process !
