A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.

Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.

It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?

Scroll down to watch the cargo-hauler tie up with the family-hauler.

      Quit complaining, you babies. I know it's hard when someone who has a similar vehicle as yours loses, and obviously their failure projects on to you as being your own failure, but you're going to have to just live with that.

      The Touareg being diesel is irrelevant. These are tests of traction, not of power. With rubberized wide tank treads and proper gearing, I'd pull that truck with a Hayabusa engine.

      Meh. Smoking tires = poor traction. Put some quickrete in the back.

      Good work TDI, looked too easy, still, tyres, drivetrain, weight, I'm not sure it was a fair contest from the outset.

      It's like a 400-pound sumo wrestler getting veraciously crashed by a soccer mom next door.

      I guessing the truck is just 4WD without differential locks. The VW is AWD. So even thought the truck is most likely heavier and has a gearing advantage, pulling with all 4 wheels beats pulling with just 2 wheels. It still must be hugely embarrassing to be pulled backwards by a VW.

        AWD = 4WD

          4 wheel drive without differential locks only drives with two wheels. All wheel drive use all 4 wheels at all times. All wheel drive and 4 wheel drive are not the same thing.

      Pretty much a lose-lose for Chevy: If Chevy wins; it's picking on poor lil' furrin' SUV. If Chevy loses, it's a "piece of crap." Here's the reality, people: The Chevy is much stronger than that VW, but has far less traction. Would love to see the same test with a load of dirt or wood in the back of the Chevy. That way, it's still hauling more than the VW ever could, and it could rip the little Nazi car in half. That, people, is a Win-Win! :-) Pretty amazing how few people here understand basic physics.

        Pretty amazing how many people here still call German's and/or anything they make 'Nazi'. Are you the redneck driving the Silverado in this video? Learned a lot from watching Discovery Channel, huh?

        Undercover Chevy fanboy redneck detected... and disregarded. All I heard is "But...what if...but...you people dont understand...but....if it was this way." A VW beat a Chevy, hows it feel?

        Actually, in reality, the Chevy lost. In your theory driven fantasy where you get to set the variables, your Chevy may or may not have a chance.

        that Touareg would fall apart in 20,000 miles if you hooked up a car-hauler to it..
