Two weeks ago, a camouflaged C7 Corvette was spotted as a screen saver during demo mode in Gran Turismo 5. Today, the Corvette C7 Test Prototype can now be downloaded for free from the Playstation Store.

Chevrolet worked with GT5 developer Polyphony Digital to create an authentic version of the test car prototype that is still in the oven as it prepares for a reveal at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, from the wrinkles in the soft cladding to the "specific driving characteristics that are currently being tuned and refined."

It's the closest you'll get to being a genuine test driver, and you'll hear no complaints from us about gaining that experience in one of the most anticipated sports cars ever. There's a press release below that you can read as you fire up the old PlayStation3.

First Drive of Seventh Generation Corvette Prototype

Camouflaged 2014 Corvette offered as free download in Gran Turismo®5

DETROIT – When fans fire up their PlayStation®3 (PS3™) systems today they'll have a chance to become part of Corvette history. Chevrolet and Sony Computer Entertainment America, LLC (SCEA) are giving gamers a first-of-its-kind driving experience by offering a camouflaged Corvette C7 Test Prototype as a vehicle download in the critically acclaimed PS3™ racing game Gran Turismo®5.

Chevrolet and Polyphony Digital Inc., the developers of the award-winning Gran Turismo® franchise, collaborated to provide an authentic driving experience in a seventh-generation Corvette prototype currently available to only a handful of people in the world.

During the creation of the virtual Corvette prototype, careful attention was paid to the tiniest details from the creases and wrinkles in the soft camouflage used to disguise the new design to specific driving characteristics that are currently being tuned and refined ahead of the vehicle's official debut in January.

"Until now, only the most skilled drivers on the Corvette team have been authorized to push the test prototypes to the limits on some of the most challenging track surfaces in the world," said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Global Marketing. "Through this unique collaboration with Gran Turismo, Chevrolet is able, for the first time, to give performance car enthusiasts access to such an exclusive driving experience."

All six previous generations of the Corvette have been available to players of the Gran Turismo series since the game's inception and the Chevrolet nameplate remains one of the most popular vehicles to race. The camouflaged Corvette C7 Test Prototype is immediately available for download through the PlayStation® Store from the PlayStation®3 at no additional cost. It can be driven on some of the world's renowned race tracks, including Daytona International Speedway and the infamous Nurburgring – one of the track surfaces used in testing to evaluate the new Corvette's driving dynamics.

"Gran Turismo has had many firsts and we're excited to partner with Chevrolet for yet another – bringing the first-ever Chevrolet prototype vehicle into a racing game," said Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital, Inc. "As car enthusiasts, we're thrilled to give fans this extraordinary level of access to the seventh generation Corvette that otherwise would not be possible."

The Gran Turismo series has sold more than 67 million games since its inception and remains the highest-selling PlayStation-exclusive franchise of all time.

Chevrolet will introduce the 2014 Corvette on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013. Had a go at it last night. Car handles great, though will step out on you at it's upper limits. Slides are easily controllable, and it also sounds great. Definitely a fun car to take a quick lap around the Nurburgring in.

I like those gun metal wheels, it looks less tacky than the current chrome ones. Plus, weren't they supposed to "unveil" the car at the LA show...?
to hell with the game. show me the real car.
      pretty cool PR move
For anyone wondering, they don't allow you to modify the car in-game, which makes sense for a test car, but you can change the oil and wash it. HP is listed as 465. Like Jason said it's pretty tail-happy since you're stuck with the Sports:Hard tires but it does feel lighter than the C6 just driving around.

It's not a first for them. They did the same thing with the GT-R prior to its debut and yes, once the car was released, you could see, use, and drive the uncovered model. It's actually pretty cool because you get to use a vehicle that hasn't even hit the streets yet, and they're free. What exactly is the problem?
Evolutionary. I just hope the actual car puts out a base of 505, so that the transition from the C6 to C7 is like the C5 to C6 where the base car had Z06 power right off the gate. Without AWD, they will have to have updated lots of their launch control software to come anything close to the GT-R in 0-60 times. I am not holding my breath. This is going to get its back handed over to it by the GT-R without some serious upgrades, even in Z-06 format.
The Z06 is a GT-R competitor, the base and GS trim Vettes are not. Regardless, the Vette is a different experience. Not everyone wants AWD and flappy paddles.
Umm... this is the base Corvette. Output has already been posted at 465hp. 0-60 is expected to be sub-4 seconds. As stated before, this is coming from the base model, which means it will probably be sustantially cheaper than the GTR in initial cost, and it will definitely be cheaper to own than the GTR, even in its future high performance guises above the base model. You have an obvious bias towards the GTR considering you're comparing it to a car that isn't even in the same class as it. You should try comparing it to the new Viper.
0-60 is still relevant in 2012? GT-R, 911 Turbo, Aventador and all the way up to the Veyron are all hitting 2.6-2.9 seconds to 60. Looks like we're hitting a diminishing return there (even with Bugatti's super expensive rubber).

notice the tailights are 4 piece...not the dreadful ones that have been speculating about!

Ever hear of a "teaser"? Sees pretty obvious they went to the trouble of modelling this car in the game for future release once the car is revealed. All they had to do was throw a black tarp over it and they got instant publicity for both the game and the car when it popped up on the demo a few weeks ago, and then again now when they released it. When the car is revealed next January I'm sure it'll be DLC, although at that point it'll get lost in the headlines with the actual Chevy reveal.

It is nice but no RAV-4, right BD?
Traditional tail lights, and a B-Pillar immediately behind the cabin windows, I'll be happy. If you have to have a C-Pillar, try to hide it like on a Nissan 240sx or something. Gt5 sucks. Hopefully them teaming up isn't a sign of the direction the new Vette is headed.
The profile disappoints me. Much to evolutionary, not revolutionary. GM needs to stop churning out the same cookie-cutter shape and give us something to get excited about.
I agree with this. At those prices, you are selling a big penis extension. It had better look god. I have a feeling that the C7 is going to get shown up by the Viper, even though it's launching second... Time will tell.
The REAL question is whether there are molded body panels underneath the molded camo (and if so, how long before someone hacks the DLC, grabs the 3D model and strips away the camo)
I doubt it. It wouldn't be every efficient from a programming perspective to model something that will theoretically never be seen.
