To better go after the work truck market that its rivals Ford and General Motors have dominated for some time, the Ram Truck brand of Chrysler is starting a new sub-line of work vehicles called Ram Commercial. Rather than carrying the full Ram Commercial name, each model in the new lineup would wear the Tradesman trim level, which means that the Ram 1500 Tradesman is disappearing for retail buyers only and will still be available for commercial or fleet buyers.

The Ram Commercial lineup will consist of current products like the Ram 1500 Tradesman, Ram Heavy Duty Tradesman pickups and chassis cab trucks, and the Ram C/V Tradesman cargo van, but it will also be adding a new full-size van called the 2014 Ram ProMaster Tradesman based off the Fiat Ducato. It also looks like Ram Commercial will be getting a smaller van from the Fiat Professional brand to go up against small cargo-friendly vehicles like the Ford Transit Connect and Mini Clubvan, but we can't tell if this new model is based on the Fiat Scudo, Doblo and Florino.

Ram Commercial buyers will also benefit from the BusinessLink and "On The Job" programs. Both programs make it easier for businesses to purchase and maintain their fleets.

Ram Truck Launches New Ram Commercial Truck Division

-Ram Commercial offers full line of industrial-strength trucks built for workers and businesses to provide maximum capability and productivity while delivering low total cost of ownership

Ram Truck is launching a new division to focus on commercial truck development, sales and support in a growing market. Embodied by the Tradesman trim level available on all models, the new Ram Commercial organization offers a full line of industrial-strength trucks and vans.

The new Ram Commercial division integrates a growing network of Ram BusinessLink dealers focused on the needs of commercial customers. Ram Commercial also will help offset the cost of doing business with On The Job incentives, specifically designed to lower the expense of commercial upfits. Both programs address professional needs for every job.

Timing of Ram Commercial launch aligns with the upcoming launch of the all-new Ram ProMaster and positive commercial demand. With the entire auto industry growing by two million units year over year in 2012, and further growth expected in 2013, commercial business will be key as it represents about one quarter of the total volume.

Ram Commercial targets countless businesses in a variety of industries, including service and repairs, construction, transportation/shipping, large-medium-small businesses and agriculture. The economy has incurred pent up demand to replace aging commercial fleets and vehicles that are no longer offered in the market. This has created opportunity and Ram Commercial will be there with a variety of capable and efficient vehicles.

A vehicle is designated "commercial" under one of the following circumstances:
-Titled in a company or corporation
-Used for business but titled in an individual's name (sole proprietor)
-Exceeds 26,000 lbs. GVWR
-Used to haul any hazardous material

Ram 1500
For 2013, the Ram 1500 grabs the title of best-in-class fuel economy of 25 MPG for the half- ton segment with a number of exclusive technologies including a new V-6 engine, eight- speed transmission, stop-start system, air suspension and active grille shutters.       The new van based on the Ducato should be a big hit: wider than a Sprinter, lower floor height, front wheel drive, which is an advantage in a sub-10,000 pound GVW. This is the van I wish I had when I was driving for Fedex Ground. If the smaller size van is based on the Doblo, it will have one big advantage over the Transit Connect, 49 inches between the wheel wells, allowing four foot wide sheet goods to be carried flat on the floor.

      for personnel use they should bring back a small pick with 4wd that will rival with the Tacoma and its top of the line trim should be priced at 18 grand max. reason people buy full size Harley Davidson f150s is because they go all out and decide it as being its primary source for travel for groceries and soccer practice because they see it as being cheaper as getting that then a 2 door f150 pickup. make a nice cheap pickup that is designed to take a beating and they will sell like hot cakes....im personally looking to buy a 2 door tacoma with 4wd and maby a crv for family stuff....

      I have been fostering the opinion that the Ram brand is the "ace in the hole" for Chrysler. The Ram pickup is a solid success and has captured a large and loyal customer base. But Ram has been absent in so many segments for so long, it's impact has been minimized, but not for long. With the rebirth of Ram into so many segments, once even dominated by Dodge such as vans, Ram will be a serious asset to boost Chrysler past Ford in sales for domestic manufacturers I'm predicting. Chrysler has a strong hand to play and the commercial truck market is in it's infancy. The "ace in the hole" will soon help Chrysler to a "royal flush". That's a solid wager.

      VERY smart move by RAM. A truck needs to sell well with buyers (companies) that use them like a real truck should be. This will definitively boost sales and get the RAM closer to Ford/Chevy status (which to me, are the top 2 pickups in the market). Now if only the Titan would get redesigned and offer more cab and engine options so they have a better truck to market beside their pretty awesome NV Cargo Vans...

          But, you just speculated above that Chrysler will surpass Ford. What's the diff? You're obviously a Chrysler fan, which is fine. I have nothing against them. If I were buying a new truck right now it would be down to the F150 or Ram 1500 both have things I like.
