General Motors has finished off an extensive model overhaul for its Buick division, but along with its updated cars, the brand might also be getting a new logo. According to the Detroit Free Press, GM North America President Mark Reuss indicated that the Buick tri-shield logo could be getting a makeover, but offered no further information.

It is unlikely Buick will completely redesign or replace its current logo, but the article seems to indicate that it might return to color; although all chrome now, the logo used to feature red, white and blue shields. Head on over to the Detroit Free Press article to look at some past Buick logos including one from 1904.

No need for a new logo, The new buicks are so good now, they should invest in ads. I never see ads for buick on tv very much if at all. Go on facebook, twitter, Mtv If Buick make anything I think a Black Carbon edition would be cool, Buicks top models in black carbon trim, black carbon logo, Black carbon dash trim. Black carbon rims , black carbon hood. I would call it Wicked Black by Buick

damn i would buy a buick regal if it was all blacked out in black carbon and had a LS2 v8 . man it would be tight looking and bad azz but yea i dont see buick doing something like this ever because it would not sell well with grandpa and grandma. tom and billy got a goo ideal brewing there.

I forgot then do ads for Wicked Black edition Buick's on DVD rentals for movies like Twilight , movies aimed at the youth market , It too late now but if one of the characters of twilight had driven a said model like I suggested, it would make it a I want that ...

that sounds like the dumbest idea I have ever heard. If you want something to appear luxury the last thing you want to do is alienate the only audience you have. Particularly because blacking something out is some of the cheapest modifications you can do.

Yea because BMW would nver have M editions to make their cars more luxury feeling . Mercedes would never have AMG editions to customize their cars so their more luxury feeling, cadlillac would never have The V series to help add in more luxury . Add in some more muscle and buick would have something to make them stand out from the rest ..Buick also did the black look with their Grand Nationals . Its not always about being just the best luxury car, its about getting your model noticed. Black look or not, buick does not need a new logo, they need a special edition for thdeir models.

Byrant , You say that you do marketing and you would suggest marketing a brand to kids AKA, the youth of today would not effect a brands Image, Do you not think these kids in the future will not be buying cars? My first car was a 1992 Chevy cavalier Z 24, what lead me to Chevy in part was the marketing of the 80's that I remember from my youth." The heartbeat of America " Do you tell this automaker you work for now to only market to the right now market and not the future market? Do you work for Buick now lol ,this could explain why they have not gain the new audience their seeking

Bryant , The point of Buick and GM looking at changing the Buick logo is because they want a new Audience. If GM and Buick was happy with the Audience they have now which is dying off then do you think they would had redesign all their cars to appeal to a bigger Audience? Buick IMO does not need a new logo as much as a special Model to gain the attention of the other Audiences GM is seeking for Buick. A Black trim Edition for all their models could help IMO more then a new logo. Also Real Black Carbon is not a cheap modification and as Tom said, add more Muscle and this would be just want Buick does need more then a new logo.

First off I own an M3 an m3 is not a blacked out 3 series. second appealing to kids in twilight won't sell any more Buicks. its a car that costs more than 40 thousand dollars. How many 16 year olds have that kind of disposable income lying around? I also do marketing for a major auto manufacturer and can promise you that the change in emblem is to attract new customers that can afford the segment they are in, not enter into a new one. Chevy did not change the name of cavalier to the cobalt to appeal to a new demographic they did it because the cavalier had a poor brand perception and they used the name change to remove some of that stigma.

I don’t think Buick should alter the logo to much as it’s kind of become ingrained in the minds of everyone for many years now, young and old. Although a illuminated logo like that seen on the 2009 Riviera concept would look hot. With that said I’m a fan of seeing model specific logos, for example the Wildcat or Riviera logos, although such products would have to exist.

Skip the logo for now and bring back the names Riviera and Wildcat on some worthy product offerings.

I like that idea, only thing I'd do different would be a green/blue shield instead of just blue.

I have had 43 cars so far. For our roads and to support our workers I buy American My supercharged Monte Carlo easily pulls away from a 5 series. Where do you drive the ultimate driving machine in LA? Everyone does 10 miles an hour during rush hour. My Buick Rivera had 250,000 miles when I sold it. Same engine, trans, no rust - just brakes and tires! Remember, the job you save may be your own ! So , buy our products.

Why not add some color back to it, either red, white & blue or one of the three for different models: Red - performance, white - luxury, blue/green - efficiency. While Buick is at it, why don't they bring back the LeSabre, Invicta & Electra nameplates for their core nameplates. LeSabre can replace the LaCrosse, Invicta as a high style couple/convertible on with the CTS or ATS platform and the Electra as their top sedan? Keep the other model nameplates but value the history of the brand as well and this will help capture ppl my age and younger. Make it more of an every mans Jaguar instead of chasing the Germans like Cadillac.

If they change the shield then they should do so with a new major marketing push. I sat in a number of Buicks at the recent auto show and they have really come a long way. Most reviews are also very positive. Even the upcoming Encore, which I thought would not make any sense, seems like it will carve out a nice niche for itself. They should start comparing themselves to the competition more often to get buyers in the showroom. For example, in my opinion, the Verano is so much nicer than the Acura ILX. They should go on the attack.

You know what would be really cool? A circle with like a horizontal lightning bolt going through it, like a letter Z with the top and bottom lines stretched so that they travel beyond to borders of the circle. That would look awesome!
