Behold the KTM 1290 Super Duke R Prototype in all its glory. The Austrian motorcycle manufacturer showed off its newest concept at the 2012 EICMA International Motorcycle Show, and it boasts an extra 100cc of displacement over the LC8 mill in the 1190 RC8 R on which the prototype is based. That means there's a full 180 horsepower on hand to kick you down the track, and given the impressive efforts at weight saving engineers implemented on the concept, something tells us the sprint to 60 mph will take no time at all.

KTM hasn't released a specific curb weight, but the 1290 Duke R Prototype features a chrome-molybdenum steel tube frame, a light-weight alloy single-sided swing arm and lightened alloy wheels. That's fun and all, but not nearly so interesting as the way this bike sounds. With that big V-Twin barking through an Akrapovic exhaust, the bike sounds like a 55-gallon drum full of lionesses on meth. Check it out in the video below.

As a huge fan of the old SuperDuke, I am so pumped on this. The old 990 was such a sweet handling bike, it was just a little underpowered for its class and the chassis was aging a bit. I have been mulling the latest crop of nakeds and this Austrian beast looks like a good rival for the Triumph, Ducati and rest of the pack.

Clearly a beast but I think that KTM needs to ditch their motocross-heritage style graphics and switch to something with better street style.

There are plenty of other bikes to chose if that is what you base your purchase on. KTMs are bright, bold, and in your face with colors and graphics and that sets them apart from all the murda'd out Japanese bikes. That is like complaining that Kawasaki is too green, Yamaha too blue, Honda to red, or Suzuki too yellow. It is their trademark.

I don't think you understand what you are trying to say. You can't have a narrow opinion by liking more things than someone else. Kind of the opposite actually.

Did I say that I base my purchase on graphics? I think a great bike that looks like a Cheetos bag is a turnoff. Your comment is like complaining that you don't like comments that aren't aligned with your narrow opinions. See how that works?

Classical makes some people sad. Metal makes others sad. And yet others are made sad by raggae. Hit the mute button and stop being sad.

Nannies are going to tame the automobile until they're nothing but self-driving vanilla blobs. But when that day comes, there will still be (I hope!) the oasis that are loud, fast, sexy motorcycles!

Sexy and that exhaust note is awesome, but holy cow - short wheelbase. Looks even shorter than some of the Ducatis.
