While not strictly a car game, the Grand Theft Auto franchise has always had quite a lot to offer the auto enthusiast video gamer. The hotly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V is no exception. In fact, based on the trailer for the game that Rockstar Games has just released, it may be the most cars-rich title in the series to date.

Though GTA is still a hair's breadth away from having fully real and licensed car models for its gameplay, the distance from reality has become smaller if we are to judge by this trailer. A very nearly real Audi R8 Spyder clone sort of stars in this trailer, and we see close copies of an Aston Martin DB5, BMW M3 Convertible, Volvo S80, and more. (The sandrail is fairly sweet, too).

Scroll down to check out the GTA goods in a pair of trailers. Look for the game to hit store shelves in the spring of next year – our pre-order is in.

I was literally like this: ":O" The entire video. Swinging sailboat masts on the highway, falling elevators, cars out of airplanes, houses exploding... It's like sensory overload. I haven't EVER been this excited for a game. Just, wow.

I hear you! I bought GTA IV the day it came out, played like 5 missions and haven't really touched it since. This, on the other hand, looks AMAZING! I need to start looking into this game now!

"not strictly a car game"? So the title is misleading then? Guys, it's *all* about cars -- just not real world ones. It's not a racing game nor is it a simulator, but for pete's sake, that doesn't mean it's not a car game.

It's not a car game. It has cars and you can drive them and they're fun, but they are not the main focus of the game.

Basically, GTA V will be a mix of Midnight Club: LA (car-wise) and previous GTA games. I approve.

Let's hope there isn't a repeat of the "hot Coffee" contreversy from GTA SA.
