Marketing can be a very strange business. Convincing a man or woman (or child, really) that they absolutely cannot live without the latest, greatest new bit of technology oftentimes takes a unique approach. In the "online film promoting the Toyota GT86" you'll see below, created by agency Happiness Brussels, men are reverse-psychologied into thinking a new sports coupe will make them more masculine by getting their loved ones to hate them. Or something like that. We think.

In any case, we suggest you watch the video below to see how much fun men can have with a GT86 – or Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ, presumably – at the expense of their significant others. Fair warning: There's a potential Not Safe For Work moment in the ad: beware of a brief male butt shot about 44 seconds in.

Marketing. Gotta love it. Unless you're married to a man. Or something like that. We think. Whatever, just watch.

The reactions are funny, but don't make any sense because part of this car's appear is that its reasonably priced. If all these mid-life crisis dudes came home with a Porsche, then yeah, throw their guitar out the window. But don't go hitting it with a baseball bat. That's just dumb.

My wife would never let me buy a car with only 200 hp, so I don't have to worry about it.

I agree that it is underpowered , but any semi-talented person can easily increase HP output of an engine. People have been doing that in their personal garages for years . It takes a lot to change chassis dynamics and handling characteristic to make a good driving car; that is what this car has going for it .

Who wants to void the warranty on a brand new car? One of many reasons I got a '13 Genesis Coupe...

@john Blaze, 10kmore? not even, for 28k total, the SAME price as the BRZ/FRS with a few options boxes checked, you can get a 360 gen coupe 3.8 R-Spec. Not only does have a 360hp V6, it also includes 19 wheels, summer tires, huge brembo brakes, etc. The Gen Coupes in general are the best go quick bang for your buck no matter how you look at it, and even the 2.0T R-Spec will drive circles around the Toybarus at the track.

I just got the 2.0t Genesis Coupe. A couple of cheap, basic, warranty friendly mods will practically get you to 300hp. Didn't see the point in paying for the V6 when you get lots of low end torque, less weight and better mpg with the turbo. Plus I paid under invoice, so it was a mid $23k car. I can't fathom the price for the FR-S, get a Miata and you'll have all the fun plus a convertible...

If they're gonna react like that... better getting them out of your life, and keeping the sports car.

can anyone explain to me why male nudity is perfectly acceptable and growing in polularity in polular culture(tv and movies) but female nudity isnt? and also why a naked man is shown here if the ad is targeted towards men?

I would never make a purchase like a car without talking first to my wife, but if it ever happens she would never act like that. Anyone who has a wife like that get out when you can.

That seems about right...with its weak engine the only way the thing can spin its tires is on loose dirt.

This ad makes me that much more nervous about getting married. I'm only engaged right now, but even then, she still gets pissed when I mention cars or motorcycles I'd like to buy, with my own money that I make working my ass off every week. Or what I should or shouldn't be spending it on, or what needs done to or around the house that I should be spending on instead, etc. Oh, and she gets pissed whenever I bring up the fact that I want a prenup before we tie the knot. F*ck my life.

GTFO. Seriously. If she's that pissed about a car you're going to buy with YOUR money, you better seriously re-evaluate.

Commercial almost as stupid and pointless as the car itself.
