Ferrari has a new board of directors member. Eddy Cue, vice president of internet software and services for Apple, has just taken a seat at the table with the rest of the brand's decision makers. According to Wired, that tie-up could result in an influx of new Apple tech thinking on Ferrari models. Last April, Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo met with Apple CEO Tim Cook, and the two reportedly spent the time praising each other's dedication to technology and design.

Cue has been a heavy hitter with Apple, having had his hands on everything from iLife to iBooks, the App Store and iCloud. Right now, he's overseeing both iOS Maps and Siri. Apple is currently partnering with a number of manufacturers, including General Motors, Honda and Toyota to integrate Siri into vehicle interfaces, but has been reticent to allow its executives to serve on other corporate boards until now. Cue says he has owned five Ferrari models to date, and respects the brand ethos behind the products.

In the near future..."Breaking News: Ferrari files numerous multinational lawsuits against Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, Mclaren, and Lotus over design patents.

If they're considering implementing Apple Maps as well as Siri into cars, they'd better make some fast fixes on that, so more folks don't get dreadfully lost. Hopefully the new guy in charge of it will improve it. (and I'm crossing my fingers on a Google Maps app sooner than later!)

You are going to be finding a lot of Ferrari's in the middle of the ocean soon...

The problems with Apple Maps are mostly overrated. Yeah, there's some problems, but Google Maps has a lot of their own too.

No, I love my Apple products, but Apple maps is utter garbage. Getting rid of Google maps and the Youtube app has really ticked me off.

Yes, a custom Apple-designed infotainment interface would be a lot more appropriate than stuffing in the nav system from a Dodge Caravan, or whatever parts-bin nonsense they're using now.

This idea is smart if it leads Apple to diversity into additional market segments, but if the hope is to develop some custom integration for Ferrari models, that is a very narrow focus. Unlike Apple executives, most Apple fans simply cannot afford a Ferrari. If this is something that started with Ferrari and eventually trickled down into other Fiat/Chrysler vehicles, that would make a bit more sense -- though the Ferrari enthusiasts wouldn't think too highly of it anymore.

To be fair, in car user interfaces are horrible when it comes to 'most' cars, even super cars. It would do some good to have a company specialized in this on your side. Not saying this would actually happen.

As an avid-Android user, I have no comment regarding this news (rear camera aside, I prefer my Nexus to my fianceés iPhone 4S, though I very much like Apple's computers and laptops). That said, I adore the picture accompanying this post. My PS3 has a new wallpaper. :-)
