Security cameras at a local pawn shop captured a truly brutal hit and run in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The tape shows Shaun Lewis crossing the street in the early morning hours on October 6. As he gets into the middle of the street, car headlights can be seen. Then, before Lewis can do anything, the vehicle slams into him, launching him violently into the air.

The driver stops the car and gets out upon realizing what has happened, but promptly returns and drives off in appalling fashion.

"I remember running across the street and as I get half way I remember seeing some lights coming," Lewis told WSOC. "I figured he would go around me...I didn't have time to stop, jump or get out the way."

Lewis said he didn't even remember getting hit. He was somehow able to walk home and call the authorities after coming to. He'll have to walk with a cane as a result of the collision and is temporarily out of work, according to WSOC.

Police are currently looking for the driver.

"I don't want to see him locked up, but I want him to pay for him leaving the scene," Lewis said. "He shouldn't have left like that."

Check out the video for yourself above.

Just check all the repair shops and find out who's getting their front end repaired...they can find the car. FInd out who called their insurance company in the days that followed...they can find the owner. Amazing the pedestrian did not suffer worse injuries. There is NO excuse for leaving the scene of the accident no matter who is to blame for the incident. The driver should have called 911 and stayed with the injured person. He should be locked up for "criminal indifference".

He was half way across the street before the car shows up, in the good ole US of A the pedestrian has the right of way when more than 1/4 of the way across the street regardless of where you are, and I noticed that there is NO cross walk, that means you don't have to be on one, and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries is a FELONY in all 50 states

Pedestrian has the right of way if they are more than 1/4 of the way across the street? I think you are making this up. Please cite a reference for this "fact". The pedestrian is clearly at fault for the accident, but the the driver is guilty of the more serious offense of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

I hate to say but the guy got up and walked away. The driver must have seen that the guy was alright and left. HEY DON'T JAYWALK EVEN IN AN APPARENTLY EMPTY ROADWAY.

Yes, you should hate what you say. You need to watch the video again and listen carefully, the victim was lying on the road when the driver approached him, then the coward decided to run away. The life of any being doesn't mean a thing for the irresponsible, reckless people.

While he should have crossed "at the crosswalks" it still doesn't excuse the hit and run driver. First, how did he miss seeing the guy in the street, second, why in the name of heaven did he just get back in his car and drive off. Doesn't anyone have a conscience any more? The man could have had internal injuries and died without help. Hope payback gets that driver trifold.
