Many automakers are trying to trim down the number of available build combinations on new models in order to make the car-buying process easier and raise quality metrics, but Chrysler is making sure that customers in the market for the 2013 SRT Viper can get just about anything they want. In fact, Chrysler is promising that the new Viper will have close to 150,000 appearance combinations, not to mention numerous option packages. That's oodles more than before.

In terms of its styling alone, the Viper and Viper GTS are offered with eight wheel styles, eight exterior colors, two body stripe options available in four colors and five interior color combinations. White and yellow are back on the color palette, but you can also get iconic Viper colors like red and blue. One of the exterior colors, Stryker Red, was originally developed just for the show car, but Chrysler said reception of the color was so positive that it will be an optional hue on GTS models. Sign up this author for the Race Yellow Viper GTS with Black Venom stripes and the six-spoke Venom wheels in Hyper Black.

While the styling choices of the new Viper are in line with the previous generations, SRT definitely wanted to make sure to offer similar luxury elements to rival some of the car's supercar contemporaries. These include two available Harman Kardon surround sound audio systems, optional Nappa leather seats with Alcantara inserts, added performance from the $3,500 Track Package (two-piece brake rotors, lightweight Sidewinder II wheels, etc.) added technology from the $2,500 Grand Touring Package (navigation, satellite/HD radio, backup camera, cupholder) and optimal luxury from the $7,500 GTS Laguna Interior Package (wall-to-wall premium leather and Alcantara). For the ultimate Viper junky, the 2013 model will offer a limited run of just 150 with the $15,500 GTS Launch Edition Package (pictured above).

Scroll down to see some the major options offered on the new Viper, and then just think back to the original Viper that didn't even offer roll-up windows or a proper roof.

The Chrysler Group's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) brand today announced the most extensive list ever of available options and features for the two all-new models of the 2013 SRT Viper.

"With the upcoming launch of the 2013 SRT Viper, comes the greatest amount of choices ever for optional equipment for our flagship supercar," said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports. "We started this trend of adding new levels of exclusivity with the previous generation Viper and now we're excited to provide our performance-enthusiast customers a chance to customize their cars like never before with a multitude of interior and exterior choices."

For a complete rundown of all available options and pricing, visit http://www.drivesrt.com/news/2012/09/pricing-announced-for-2013-srt-viper-models.html

Expanded exterior paint color and stripe options

For 2013, a mixture of classic Viper exterior paint shades have been brought back with some fine tuning, while new colors have been introduced for the fifth generation of the iconic American supercar.

Six exterior color choices are offered on the SRT Viper models including: Adrenaline Red, Black Venom, Bright White, Gunmetal Pearl, Race Yellow and Shadow Blue Pearl. The SRT Viper GTS model receives an expanded exterior color palette with the availability of Stryker Red Tinted Pearl and GTS Blue.

Two distinguished body stripe configurations are offered. The SRT Viper is available with a pair of tapered stripes starting on the clamshell hood and making their way onto the roof and finishing on the rear hatch. The SRT Viper GTS model is available with a pair of equal-width stripes running the length of the coupe from front to rear fascia.

Both stripe configurations are expertly applied in the paint booth before the main body color. Only after the paint is cured, a final clear coat is used to ensure the stripes are an integral part of the finished product.

Exterior stripe color packages include: Black Venom, Billet Silver Metallic and Gunmetal Pearl. Bright White body-length stripes are being used exclusively on the 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition model.

Interior combinations with available audio systems

The all-new, driver-oriented interiors set new standards for both 2013 SRT models with luxurious materials, craftsmanship and available Harman Kardon® audio systems.

Standard black-premium-ballistic nylon seating surfaces in the 2013 Viper model can be upgraded to Nappa leather in black, red or caramel with Alcantara inserts.

On the SRT Viper GTS model, a variety of selectable colors are applied to the standard luxurious Nappa/Alcantara seats and leather-appointed areas where the body comes in contact, including the doors, console and HVAC outlet accents. Available interior color combinations include black, black/Header Red and black/caramel.

The optional GTS Laguna Interior Package features SRT Laguna premium leather surfacing throughout the entire cabin in either black or sepia. Unique embossments are designed into the door bolsters, seats and the storage bag while a new Alcantara headliner completes the package.

The standard nine-speaker audio system in the 2013 SRT Viper model can be upgraded to the 12-speaker Harman Kardon surround system featuring 5.2 speaker playback architecture with five surround channels and two subwoofers. The same 12-speaker Harman Kardon surround system is standard in the SRT Viper GTS model.

Available on both new SRT Viper models is the 18-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system with Logic7™ and 5.4 speaker playback architecture featuring five surround channels and four subwoofers. Also included is the Harman Kardon high-voltage class D amplifier with tracking power supply and up to 11 channels of amplification and high-performance and high-efficiency GreenEdge loudspeakers.

Performance wheels for any taste

Three wheel designs and a trio of finishes combine to give customers a total of eight wheel options for 2013. The five-spoke, forged-aluminum "Rattler" wheel design on the 2013 Viper model is available with fully polished (standard), fully painted Hyper Black or fully painted matte black finishes.

The Viper GTS model has a split six-spoke forged-aluminum 'Venom" wheel design with three available finishes including polished face with graphite-painted pockets (standard), fully painted Hyper Black or fully painted matte black.

Both SRT Viper models built with the optional Track Package feature the ultra-lightweight, multi-spoke "Sidewinder II" wheel design painted in Hyper Black or matte black.

Even more track performance capability

While every SRT Viper leaves the factory floor ready to take on any on-road or on-track duties, the available Track Package further enhances its abilities by elevating overall performance to a higher level. Slotted two-piece lightweight rotors from StopTech replace the original equipment, while ultra-lightweight multi-spoke Sidewinder II wheels wrapped in high-performance Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires further reduce unsprung weight at all four corners. Selecting the Track Package reduces 57 pounds from the vehicle's curb weight.

Production of the iconic American supercar will begin at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit – the home for Viper since 1995 – in November 2012. Dealer orders are expected to begin in mid-November 2012, with first deliveries scheduled for December.

Manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2013 SRT Viper model is $97,395 (excluding $1,995 destination), while MSRP for the 2013 SRT Viper GTS model is $120,395 (excluding $1,995 destination).

The new 2013 SRT® Viper will be in customers' hands later this year. In preparation for the launch, pricing and options are now official. Two models and more options than ever give buyers the opportunity to customize the 2013 Viper like never before. An extensive array of colors and stripes, interior options, stereo choices and wheel designs are all on the table. Building a unique car won't be an issue, as nearly 150,000 combinations are available.

Two Snakes, One Mission
SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS models were created with specific goals of satisfying the insistent desires of Viper customers everywhere. The SRT Viper is an all-out performance machine aimed squarely at the enthusiast seeking a direct connection to his or her vehicle. It is a modernized adaptation of the original. Equally potent, the SRT Viper GTS offers drivers a new level of amenities. Its added content and features offer owners exceptional comfort and ability. Whether choosing the SRT Viper or SRT Viper GTS, owners will be undoubtedly enamored by its beauty and sheer performance capabilities.

2013 SRT Viper starting price

SRT Viper $97,395
SRT Viper GTS $120,395

Prices do not include $1,995 destination fee, and a gas guzzler tax charge which will be finalized when final fuel economy ratings are official.

Color Palette
Consistent with the hand-built nature of the SRT Viper, every application of paint is completed manually including preparation, sanding and polishing, resulting in one of the best paint jobs in the industry. For 2013, this spectacular paint will be available in a mixture of classic SRT Viper shades, as well as some new colors.

Six color choices are offered for the 2013 SRT Viper: Adrenaline Red, Black Venom, Bright White, Gunmetal Pearl, Race Yellow and Shadow Blue Pearl. The Viper GTS receives expanded availability including Stryker Red Tinted Pearl and GTS Blue.

"Taking the DNA and strategy from previous generation Vipers, we wanted to start that with the Gen-V," said Jim Parker, Head of Exterior Color and Trim Studio, Chrysler Product Design Office. "We wanted to start off with a larger baseline than we had on the Gen-I. We also wanted to ramp up the type of paint and colors that were available on the car. We wanted to have a flavor of the original car with new colors and new types of colors as we moved forward with the Gen-V cars."

A couple of shades from earlier generation Vipers have been reintroduced in the latest reincarnation of the car. Bright White and Race Yellow gained prominence in earlier generations and are back for another round.

"On this generation of the Viper, we wanted to look back and then we wanted to look forward as well," said Parker. "Then we wanted to look forward yet again. It's kind of like you are looking back to where we ended up and what was really popular and resonated with hardcore Viper people over the last 18 years." The classic Viper Red was re-worked and evolved into what is now called Adrenaline Red.

Stryker Red is a new hue that was created to resemble liquid red metal and has been dubbed "the ultimate red." Most people don't know this amazing color was developed as a special one-off show car color. Reactions and opinions were so positive we decided to make it a special production color.

"We have mixed up the colors of the car," said Mark Trostle, Head of Design for SRT®, Mopar® and Motorsports. "We have the dark, mechanical colors as I like to call them, and the candy colors, the yellow and reds, which help balance the color palette."

New and old alike, the colors on the SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS continue to set the supercar apart, bringing out its true style and performance attributes.

Equal-width stripes run the entire length of the SRT Viper GTS starting on the front fascia, gracing its hood, roof and decklid, and finishing on the rear fascia. I worked at a Chrysler dealership years ago, where we had a new Viper ACR on the showroom floor. An older gentleman would come in and look at it once in a while. Finally, one day he asked me "when will this car come with an automatic transmission?'' . "Well, never." I replied. He asked why not. "Well, sir, because it's a sports car." He replied (angrily) ,"My Corvette is an automatic!" "Well, Sir, as I said..... the Viper is a sports car!". He never came back!

I'm glad that this beauty is coming out soon. That will inevitibly cause last generation Viper convertibles to depreciate a bit, and then I can buy one for around 50k. That or a Z06 Corvette. Those two might be my favorite cars of all time ( excluding classic American cars which I have owned in the past, like my first car ('49 Mercury), or my '55 Chevrolet Nomad, or my '32 Ford Deuce coupe hot rod) . They literally have all I ask for in a car. Low curb weight,ear-damaging engine sound, minimalist interior, great steering and handling, and amazing performance.

Kind of funny how you can choose from 150,000 combinations on a car with such a small production run (90% of these combinations will never be produced), while there are other cars that sell well over 150,000 units every year, but on those models the manufacturer only gives you a hand full of options to pick from.

Viper Blue is one of the prettiest colors ever painted on a car.

I like how adding the track pack to the GTS is cheaper than adding stripes.

The stripes probably have to be manually painted by a guy with a spray gun after the car is off the line.

Incorrect. They are applied beforehand and the stripes are cleared over. By running your hand across you can't feel any difference when going between the stripes and base coat. It is the only way to do stripes IMO.
