The all-new 2014 Mazda6 Wagon has officially bowed under the lights of the 2012 Paris Motor Show along with its fresh-from-Moscow twin, the Mazda6 sedan. Both machines now boast a full suite of Skyactiv efficiency technologies for the first time, and as such, are lighter than their predecessors.

The wagon debuts with a 173-horsepower 2.2-liter Skyactiv diesel engine in two power configurations, both of which conform to Euro 6 emission standards without the burden urea injection. Mazda isn't saying exactly what sort of fuel economy we can expect from the wagon, but earlier estimations put the diesel sedan in the 43-miles-per-gallon highway range. Expect similar from the five-door.

Buyers will also be able to purchase the 2014 Mazda6 with a direct-injection gasoline 2.0-liter four-cylinder good for 148 horsepower as well as a 2.5-liter gasoline direct injection engine with 189 horsepower. Like the four-door, the long roof will make use of the Mazda i-ELOOP brake regeneration system. Check out the full press release below.

To those who don't know -- the diesel IS coming to North America. It's specifically made to comply with worldwide emissions regulations. It's 50-state legal and Mazda fully intends to bring it to the US, just Google a little. Would perhaps be decent of Autoblog to do this bit of journalism, but eh.

Style wise these are my favorite midsized car on the horizon. I especially like the contrast of the aggressive styling with the wagon practicality. I hope the performance, price point, and 'fit and finish' is competitive. This could be my next car.

I want to like this car more. It looks like a great replacement for my TSX wagon, and I'm sure the U.S. market will see a higher output engine. But the interior does not live up to the styling success of the exterior. Aftermarket looking nav systems are ok in a Sentra, not in a car that will easily top $30k and compete with sophisticated offerings like the new Accord.

be thankful if they bring the wagon to the US at all. navigation is minor quibbles

Wow. Lots of people say "I'd buy this" or "I'd buy that" in the comments but I'm genuinely going to buy this. Having driven the CX5 recently (most entertaining small ute BY FAR), it's a good bet this'll be a perfect daily driver. Efficiency + Entertainment = My $. I'm honestly very stoked to see Mazda coming into their own like this.

I am hoping the next gen CX-9 gets a 3.0 V6 Skyactiv diesel. Either way, the Mazda 6 diesel sounds great!

We just got all the detailed specs (minus fuel economy ratings and prices) for the Canadian version of the 2014 Mazda6 yesterday. Only the 2.5L SKY 4 cylinder on offer (at least initially, which is fine) and an absolutely amazing list of features in all models. Even the "base" model is extremely well equipped. Oh yeah, here in Canada we can get a 6MT in any trim. Giddyup!
