During a DTM practice session in Zandvoort, Holland last weekend there was an accident in the pit lane that left four men injured. Ralf Schumacher had finished pitting his Mercedes-Benz racer and the pit crew in front of his had wheeled out and untied their air line, and a man in the adjacent crew was holding the air line on his shoulder.

As Schumacher left his pits, his rear wing caught the air line in the adjacent pit, where it looped down from its elevated rod. Between the hose itself and the whipping metal jack at the end of it, it sent four men to the ground and then to the hospital. All of the injuries were minor, thankfully. Three of the men have been released, one is still under observation. You can watch the incident in the video below.

      And the Oscar goes to the crew member closest to the camera and the pit wall for acting hurt. Watch him closely as he realizes what has happened then goes to one knee then to the ground. Even a crew member knows he is faking and leaves him. No doubt he will be represented by the law firm DO, WE, CHEATEM and HOW.

        That was a good catch. I watched it three times and it doesn't look like anything came close to him.

      Looks like an unintentional accident.....get the darn hose out of the way ! Jeeesh ! Can't fault the driver !

      Who would be considered at fault in this instance? I don't watch DTM so I'm not familiar with their pit etiquette/rules. -Mercedes driver passed too close to the next pit box??? -Pit crew allowed their hoses to hang too far into the lane???

        The Team with the snagged air line is at fault. If you watch the video, every other team has the air line running along the support beam, not hanging low like theirs was, and this is why it was caught by the wing on the exiting car. Next Time, make sure you air lines are tied up properly!

      man...i'm surprised the Wing didn't break off first...that's amazing. WHY DOES SPEED DENY US COVERAGE OF THIS? they make us wait till after the season is already over to show hightlght shows...such bullshit

        I think it's shown on SPEED2 but it's only available to a few cable and satellite systems. Why it's not offered as a separate internet subscription service, I have no idea. I would gladly pay monthly for it.

          I can watch it on Speed 2 with a whole lot of other cool series because of my Directv subscription. Sadly, I usually forget to check and see what has been updated.

        It's because there are about 5 people in the US who would be willing to pay to watch it.

        SpeedTV is ... (40% Nascar) (20% Hot Rods), (35% infommercials) (5% F1) .................. no?

          I wish those percentages were flip flopped in nascar and F1 for speed.

        An aerodynamic wing isn't the same thing as the bookshelf on your Civic.

      What is up with one of the guys at the far bottom right? It doesn't look like he got hit with anything but just casually lays down on the ground and starts acting hurt. Or did he just fall out laughing at his crewmates literally getting close-lined?
        lars.vestman@gmail.com
        @Peter_G
        He got hit in the nuts, apparently. Pain delay, you know.

        I think the guy genuinely got hit with something maybe hard to see but he must have had an adrenaline rush for a few seconds then started to feel the pain lol

      Maybe they need to drag their hoses out like NASCAR crews do? It would slow the stops down a bit but I'm sure this'll happen again.
