The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic has been found to suffer from a windshield wiper washer issue: 44,668 examples of the subcompact could have wiper washer hoses that separate from the fluid reservoir. If that happens, drivers won't be able use the washer system to clean the windshield.

The official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall notice indicates that General Motors will begin notifying owners around September 7, after which time owners can take their cars to their dealers for repair free of charge. The full notice from NHTSA, along with the number for the Chevrolet owner center, is posted below.

Report Date: August 26, 2012 at 09:21 AM
NHTSA Campaign ID number: 12V408000

Vehicle Model Year(s) Make / Model: 2012 CHEVROLET / SONIC
Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
Mfr's Report Date: AUG 17, 2012

Component: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER
Potential Number of Units Affected: 44,668

Summary:
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2012 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles manufactured from May 5, 2011, through February 24, 2012. These vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems." The windshield wiper washer hose on these vehicles may separate from the washer fluid reservoir. If this occurs, washer fluid will not be available to the windshield.

Consequence:
A lack of washer fluid could impede the driver's view, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will secure the windshield washer hose to prevent separation, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on, or about, September 7, 2012. Owners may contact the Chevrolet owner center at 1-866-694-6546.

Notes:
GM's recall campaign number is 12176. Customers may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Oh how quick people are to crap all over GM and the U. A. W. For recalls when they forget selectively that the 2012 Honda Civic was recalled for improper assembly of the drive shaft by non UAW workers, or the toyota gas pedal issue that involved Non UAW workers, or the 07 Camry V-6 tranmission issues; transmissions built by non UAW workers. I guess they don't matter.

Bull. On top of that if you pay taxes, you get back some money when it is time to file. I know that when i file, i get back far more than the measely couple of a hundred. Dollars that GM "borrowed" from me. So i don't understand why people are still screaming until they are hoarse about it.

If you'd pay your taxes on time, they wouldn't tapping into your account. You might even get a refund.

This is not a big deal. At least they are trying to remedy a rather minor problem for free.

And we wonder why Americans are so dumb. Look at the comment. Not only does it have numerous grammatical and spelling mistakes, it doesn't make any sense at all. Romney is counting on such dumb republicans to vote for him this November.

Inability to see out the windshield is a safety factor, there's no other way to spin this.
