Our old pal Jonny Lieberman gets to have all the fun. The former Autoblog editor now gets to play with multiple supercars at a time for his post at Motor Trend. As part of MT's Best Driver's Car award process, Lieberman and the rest of the magazine's team quarter-mile all of the year's contenders in what they call "The World's Greatest Drag Race." Based on the contenders, we're inclined to agree with their bluster.

While last year's race saw the Nissan GT-R edge out the Ferrari 458 Italia, this year features a few new contenders, including the Lamborghini Aventador and McLaren MP4-12C. Other contestants include the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series, Chevy Camaro ZL1, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Subaru BRZ, Jaguar XKR-S and Porsche 911 Carrera S, which – spoiler alert – actually won the Best Driver's Car award this year. Oh, and the updated version of Nissan's GT-R makes a repeat appearance, but no Ferraris are in the field this year.

A special thanks should go out to the Subaru BRZ. It was so far behind the competition that it provided many of the wide-angle shots that captured the whole rest of the field. The straight line is not the forte of a 200-horsepower drift-o-matic, but a fourth place finish in this year's Best Driver's Car competition is a mighty feat for this seemingly outmatched sports car.

The biggest competition in this drag race will be from the new Aventador and the MP4-12C. Do they have enough to take on a new Godzilla? You're just going to have to scroll down to find out. And make sure to stick around for the closing credits to hear each one of these contenders rev their engine in a sweet mechanical symphony.

except for the fact that the BRZ costs $25,500 where as the next cheapest car in this line up was around $60,000. Btw they had it drift in the drag race to remind people what that car is really for. Fun driving, its definitely a drift car and is not intended to go up against cars with 3x the amount of horsepower than its self. Ignorance is bliss unless you post it on the internet....

I'd say the Mustang won. Less then 1 sec after the Lambo, for 55 Grand. Also all the people making fun of the Camaro; It did the 1/4 mile in 12 sec stock! thats crazy fast. Its less then 1 sec slower then the fastest car from a decade ago (Ferrari Enzo)

this race was done with all the cars they had in their 2012 Best Driver's Car competition so thats why it was in there because it was one of the contenders for that competition, they did this just for fun

GO BRZ GO GO! ... :-( awwww But seriously, they did a good job with that. They've really got those exhaust mics dialed in.

What I saw was the GT500 smoke the Porsche, Camaro, Mercedes and Jaguar. But I guessed the Aventador would win

I really thought the GT500 would have done better...

It is a pretty heavy car and doesn't have the advantage of the AWD. Thing is, it is WAY WAY cheaper than the competitors it beat. I would be more than happy to have a GT500. My guess is, if it were a jump start, the GT500 would probably shut them all down.

It was pulling on the GT-R. Look at the trap speeds. And no Drew, the trap speeds of the McLaren and the Lamborghini were much higher. It's too heavy, and has too much drag at those speeds.

God what a soundtrack. The Shelby sounds big and meaty and awesome. The Camaro pops and burbles on the overrun like nuts which sounds fantastic, and there's nothing like the wail of that flat-plane V12 Lamborghini. The little flat four in the Subie could use some work though. It doesn't have quite the guttural growl that its WRX or STI brothers have, which are honestly my favorite things about those cars.

If anyone were to ask why I love cars as much as I do, all I would need to do is show them this video.

I was impressed the Porsche could beat the Camaro -- it sure sounded kind of lame, though.

Which car had the best V8 exhaust note? McLaren was obviously the loudest, but I think the GT500 sounded the best. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the note from the Mercedes though.
