The pageant of global automotive finery that is Pebble Beach weekend is under way, and among the many automakers with big plans is BMW. Its prize pony will be the unveiling of the BMW Zagato concept (click the photo above to enlarge) – a different BMW-Zagato collaboration than what was revealed at Villa d'Este earlier this year (see gallery below). This one to be debuted at Pebble Beach has familiar lines, but is a roadster.

Elsewhere on the lawns of Pebble, the 2013 7 Series and Alpina B7 will plant their tires on American soil for the first time and get the 650i Gran Coupe, M5 and M6 for a cheering section. Beyond the grass, a 1986 BMW-March GTP, 1980 BMW M1 Procar and 1975 BMW 3.5 CSL will be heating up the asphalt at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion, and the 40th anniversary of the M division will be one of the subplots at Legends of the Autobahn.

All-New BMW Zagato Makes World Debut at 2012 Pebble Beach Concours.

Updated BMW 7 Series makes North American debut among other highlights at 2012 Monterey Motorsports Reunion and Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – August 15, 2012 ... BMW will be highly visible this weekend at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours, Monterey Motorsports Reunion, and Legends of the Autobahn. Making its world debut late in the week will be a new BMW Zagato concept, the second collaboration between these two legendary car companies. The new 2013 BMW 7 Series will make its North American debut with a special highlight on the new 540-hp BMW ALPINA B7 supersedan. Other product highlights include the stunning new BMW 650i Gran Coupe and, in honor of 2012 being the 40th anniversary of BMW M, the all-new BMW M5 and M6.

BMW activity at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion will not be limited to its display in the paddock but will also include three vintage race cars participating in the Reunion, including the 1986 BMW-March GTP, the 1980 BMW M1 Procar as well as the 1975 BMW 3.5 CSL like the one that won the 12-Hours of Sebring that year. The 3.5 CSL will be piloted by BMW of North America President and CEO, Ludwig Willisch. Please stop by the paddock and say "Hello."

BMW M will be a focus at Legends of the Autobahn. In addition to the new M5 Sedan and M6 Coupe, the legendary M8 Prototype, which never saw production and has never been shown in North America, will also be featured Friday. The mid-engine BMW M1, the very first BMW M supercar from 1979, will also be seen out and about this weekend.

Details about and images of the newest BMW Zagato collaboration will be available closer to the weekend.

Fail. It's made by Zagato. At least try to hit to the target and read the article before just commenting on a text where you see brand you don't like.

Eugh, another zagato car with a different badge on the front. Fender vent that doesn't match anything else the car brand makes? Check. Overly tall faux-diffuser on the rear? Check. Same short wheelbase fastback profile used on every one of their cars? Check. Side windows sweeping upward to a point in the rear? Check. Small z's in the grille? Check. If you've seen one hideous zagato, you've seen them all.

I disagree that it should match anything the car brand makes -- sure it should have some design queues so you say "that's a BMW" instead of "that's an Alfa", but Zagato makes Zagatos. In the spirit of the old coachbuilders, BMW went to Zagato to build a Zagato concept, not some BMW design exercise.

In that case, zagato has certainly done just that and built a zagato instead of a BMW.

Eh poop on that event. I'll be at the historic automobile racing at Laguna Seca while all those fancy cars sit parked on grass and do nothing.

It's childish to disrespect events that people enjoy. I will be at Pebble Beach admiring all those extremely fancy vehicles. I mean I can "poop on" your event because who wants to see old cars going around a track a million times.

Because it's racecars doing what racecars do best: race and have sex with your ear drums.

At first I found myself thinking, "Wow. BMW finally is making a design that doesn't look like every other BMW." Then I saw it's a concept. Can't wait to see how they make this look like a carbon copy of the rest of them.

i don't know why you got down voted, but a Z8 should be in the BMW lines if only too keep up with Audi R8. though i do like the front headlights on this design, I don't think this should be used as the Z8 but maybe the Z4.

A competent design student, given the mandate to adapt Zagato's recent design philosophy to the BMW Z4, could have done better than this uninspired design. The BMW Zagato Concept has no surprise design elements at all. Give me Zagato's Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa.

The coupe version they showed several weeks back is the whole package. This roadster version seems already to be missing something (I know, besides the roof.)

Sort of, the Z4 Zagato had a roof.
