Rush, Ron Howard's big-screen treatment of the 1976 Formula 1 World Championship battle between Nikki Lauda and James Hunt the year of Lauda's near-fatal crash, is 13 months away. In the meantime, the production has released four stills from filming, revealing the on-camera looks of Daniel Brühl as Lauda and Chris Hemsworth as Hunt.

The screenplay was penned by Peter Morgan, the Academy Award nominated writer of films like Frost/Nixon and The Last King of Scotland, the film was shot in the UK, Germany and Austria, it will be released on September 20, 2013 and it has an official site – although there's not much on it yet save for those stills.

It's a treat just looking at the photos, and in addition to our gallery there are many more at the Facebook link. If you scroll down you'll find a video of Ron Howard discussing the film during production. We'd be lying if we said we didn't we have high hopes for this.

I bet if it were a movie about NASCAR you'd have been excited.

True, but isn't this a movie about auto racing, hence would be relevant to autoblog? Amazing how narrow minded people like you are...

Welp, I won't be alive in 2103 unless I'm half cyborg... So maybe this will be good.

During Monaco Ron Howard said it was on the cutting room floor. I was hoping for a early 2013 release. Bummer

I followed Ron on Twitter during the filming of the movie and he posted some great pictures of sets and cars.

Check out the fake people in the far background of the checkered flag finish. Holleywood tricks i guess.

I'm excited for this movie. It would be great to watch this entire season of racing beforehand, or even just a one hour synopsis. On the flip side, I don't think "Rush" is a good title.
