We're less than two months away from the Chevrolet Trax meeting the public for the first time at the Paris Motor Show, and Chevrolet has let loose a few more details on the small, chunky SUV that will head to 140 different countries – the United States not being one of them.

Not surprisingly, engines choices will be the same as those for its sister CUV, the Vauxhall Mokka: a 1.4-liter turbo with 113 horsepower, 1.6-liter with 138 hp, and 1.7-liter diesel with 128 hp and 221 pound-feet of torque. If transmission and drivetrain choices are also standardized, the 1.6-liter will only be offered in two-wheel drive with a five-speed manual, the 1.4-liter only in four-wheel drive and with a six-speed manual, and the 1.7-liter diesel gets all the options, available with a six-speed manual or auto and in two- or four-wheel drive. Chevy does say that the Trax 1.4-liter will get the six-speed auto option later in 2013.

The interior of the Trax in the photos is distinct from both the Buick Encore and overseas siblings. We'll get a much closer look at it and the rest of the info on the Paris show floor.

2012-08-13 -- It is fair to say that Chevrolet knows a little about SUVs, having invented the class over 75 years ago with the introduction of the Suburban Carryall in 1935. In just a few weeks' time, the all-new Chevrolet Trax will celebrate its world premiere at the Paris motor show on September 27, representing Chevrolet's first entry to the fast growing small SUV segment. Trax will round out Chevrolet's offer of stylish SUVs alongside Captiva.

"For many decades, Chevrolet has been known for its dependable and capable SUVs. Trax will deliver on all of the traditional Chevrolet values and more. It is a modern, highly versatile yet fuel-efficient small SUV, offering car-like handling and all-wheel drive," said Susan Docherty, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe. "Trax is the modern expression of one of Chevrolet's core competencies, which is building and selling great SUVs," Docherty said.

Measuring 4,248 mm in length, and featuring a width of 1,776 mm and a wheelbase of 2,555 mm, Chevrolet's new small SUV sports powerful body lines that convey agility and movement. With the golden bowtie separating the upper from the lower port of its prominent front grille, Trax can immediately be identified as a member of the Chevrolet family.

Three fuel-efficient engines and on-demand AWD system
Trax has sufficient space to accommodate five persons in a comfortable high seating position. It will deliver car-like handling while also enabling off-road capability when needed.

The engine line-up will include a 1.4L turbocharged gasoline unit, a 1.6L gasoline engine as well as a 1.7L turbo-diesel engine. The 1.4L turbo gasoline engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, cranks out 140 hp (103 kW) and produces a maximum torque of 200 Nm. The AWD system is available on variants that come with the 1.4L turbo gasoline or the 1.7L diesel engine.

The 1.7L diesel engine will deliver a power output of 130 hp (96 kW) and a maximum torque of 300 Nm. All powertrains with manual transmission come with Start/Stop functionality. Both the 1.7L diesel and the 1.4L* turbo gasoline engine will also be offered with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Cabin offers unique storage flexibility and connectivity
Inside, Trax delivers a message of clean sophistication that is complemented by useful convenience features such as a cluster combining digital readouts with analogue displays.

Storage amenities in the new Trax are plentiful. Besides a 358L trunk, they include various bins above and on both sides of the center stack, as well as an available under pass seat tray. Further stowage can be made available under the cargo floor.

In addition to a 60/40 split rear seat, Trax boasts a front passenger seat which can be folded flat, offering additional flexibility in the segment. A total of eight seating combinations can be selected.

Upper trims will be equipped with Chevrolet MyLink as standard. Chevrolet MyLink is an infotainment system that aggregates content from smartphones onto a seven-inch, high resolution, full color touch-screen display. As of this winter, MyLink will feature a navigation app which can be downloaded onto compatible smartphones. It will project the route calculated by the smartphone onto the system's touch-screen.

Rock-solid safety
An array of standard passive and active safety systems will ensure that occupants are effectively protected in the event of an accident. Trax will be equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) including Hill Start Assist (HSA), Traction Control (TC), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution. Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) and Hill Descent Control (HDC) are standard on LT trim vehicles.

*to be introduced later in 2013

Sometimes I dont get GM. I would think that the Trax would make more sense than the Buick version. With GM attempting to move Buick upmarket, a tiny CUV seems odd. I have seen a few Chevy Orlandos from Canada around, and it seems to be a fitting replacement for the HHR, why does GM not sell these here, I am sure that there would be a market for them.

Also, wouldnt the Trax's economy help offset Camaros, SS, and Vettes for CAFE?

Not really. The Volt, Sonic, and Cruze do more than a tiny crossover ever could for CAFE.

There probably wouldn't be a market for the Orlando. Small minivans don't sell well here, whether it's a Kia Rondo or a Mazda5. Why would the incredibly ugly Orlando succeed where those have either failed, or barely tick over? I agree that the Encore is a little odd, but they can't sell it for Chevrolet prices because it's not built in the US.

I love the word Chevy... I often confuse it with the brand Chery. Yea, it's trolling, but it's true.

This is one of the many reasons why GM SUCKS! Anything worthwhile that they release to the world, they wont bring to the USA.

First people complain that GM does too much badge engineering, now they complain that GM is not bringing this over along with the Buick version.

You called this trying..that's a laugh! Tring means improving your processes, working together with your suppliers to improve quality, reducing top-heavy management, not using Daewoo to do badge engineering to sell trash!

Yeah, it's only been around since 1949, but since some a-hole on Autoblog doesn't like it in 2012, they should probably go ahead and ditch it. Makes perfect sense...
