So you want to own a painfully gorgeous Porsche 550, but you don't have $3.685 million? You don't say! If your heart is still set on a stunning sports car with classic lines, then Vintech may have a solution for you. The French company has created the P550 Tribute, and as the name suggests, the car is meant to evoke the famed Porsche 550.

Though possessing classic lines, the P550 boasts a full carbon fiber body, under which is a modern chassis and a 3.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine. The engine is expected to produce between 260 and 270 horsepower, sent through a five-speed manual transmission. With a curb weight of only 1,212 pounds, this vehicular homage should haul some serious tail.

The P550 Tribute will make its debut Friday, August 17 at "The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering." It is one of the many prestigious events taking place during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Delegance weekend.

Neither pricing nor production numbers have been announced, but we can surmise that the former will be a large number, and the latter will be a small one. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the gallery below of schematics, the build, and the finished product.

That's a sexy little number, but I'm guessing that to most people it's just as unattainable as a real 550.

4 cylinder boxer? Between 260 and 270 hp? Hmm. Isn't the mean average 265, exactly the number of ponies in the Subaru boxer? Oh, those French are so sneaky. Anyway, very cool. Too bad there are no mainline manufacturers brave enough to make a car with this much spirit just because.

Sure doesn't look like a subaru motor. It's a 3 liter naturally aspirated boxer with individual throttle bodies..

Only a real 550 would bring that kind of money. This is a 550 inspired replimod. I have no idea what it will sell for but 200K should be on the high side. I'd expect non CF clones to hit the market for well under $100K in the coming years.

I already own a perfect homage to the 550 coupe. It's a Cayman S. Beautiful, fast, Porsche quality, mid-engine balance, get it serviced at the local dealer. 80,000 trouble-free, enjoyable miles. Carries two sets of golf clubs in back and week-end luggage for two in front. Great A/C, Bose sound. How good is THAT?

      It's more of a tribute to a 904, than a 550.
