Believe it or not, gas prices are actually down this summer. According to AAA, the average cost for a gallon of regular, unleaded fuel is $3.42. That's down about 25 cents from the average one year ago and about 8 cents from one month ago.

Because of this, demand for smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles is falling. So, while short-sighted Americans load up on SUVs and trucks, the automakers have placed some tantalizing incentives on greener cars for those of you preparing for the inevitable future spike in gas prices.

For instance, car shoppers can get a Toyota Prius v, Toyota Camry Hybrid or Honda Civic Hybrid for a super low financing rate of either 0% or 1.9%, depending on the length of the loan. Small cars like the Mazda2, Hyundai Elantra and Kia Rio are also enjoying very low rates right now.

Of course, these are just a few options. Click below to see our complete list of the best finance deals of the month.

Much of the big incentives placed on some of the more gas-thirsty SUVs and minivans that were around earlier this year have gone in favor of deals on smaller crossovers. Ford and Mitsubishi, for instance, have offered up some great deals on their CUVs.

Most of these deals are fleeting, however, expiring at the end of the month. Make sure to take advantage of them soon, as they'll be gone before you know it.

This Month's Editor's Pick: 2012 Toyota Prius v

The Toyota Prius v is a new addition to the Prius family, expanding a lineup of gas-electric hybrid vehicles that has set the standard for environmentally-friendly transportation. This front-wheel drive, five-door liftback delivers comfort, excellent fuel economy and low emissions, as well as additional cargo space for today's active families.

The Prius v is available in three trim levels - Prius v Two, Prius v Three and Prius v Five. All trim levels employ Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive, a hybrid powertrain technology that unites a 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gasoline engine with a powerful electric drive motor to generate 134 combined horsepower. A continuously variable transmission is standard, and three selectable drive modes provide more power without compromising fuel efficiency.

The 2012 Prius v can be had right now for 0% financing for 36 months or 1.9% financing for 48 months.
