The 2013 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 is an impressive piece of hardware right out of the box. It's a package capable of pulling 11-second quarter mile passes one minute and lapping your favorite road course with genuine fury the next thanks to its impressive suspension tuning and heady 662-horsepower. But how much quicker can its supercharged V8 get with a little tweaking? The guys from Lethal Performance recently set out to find the answer. The team isn't saying exactly what they've done to the king Pony, though we can see a set of dragstrip-friendly "bigs n' littles" have found their way into the wheel wells.

As a result, the 3,852-pound two-door bolted down the drag strip in just 9.77 seconds. Judging by the "thank you" list in the video's credits, this GT500 may even be rocking a shot of nitrous, though we can't say for certain. Check out the full clip for yourself below.

Well based off of the Thanks list, this would be my guess of mods: UPR - Suspension, Exhaust, Misc parts Lund Racing - Tune Wilson - Nitrous Also do the pulleys that fit the FRPP TVS fit the 2013's TVS? If so, or if someone is already making a smaller pulley, I'd say that would be on the list as well.

To be honest I'd of liked to see what the car would have done without nitrous. Throw on the normal set of blower car mods CAI, header, x-pipe, cat-back, pulley, tune and light suspension work. Ya know, how much bang for your buck can you get with 2k or less worth of mods.

Solid Rear axle is actually better for drag racing - there is less parasitic loss.. FWIW all the haters. And this is seriously fast.. My brother has a 1970 Chevelle SS - that thing feels insane and he is only running 11s. (Though its not exactly super hot rodded - just better tires for the most part).

Its not because of parasitic losses, the short answer is the change in contact patch during suspension travel. But there's a lot more to it.

This was really impressive but should not be taken as a stock car, but rather a very well prepared drag race specific vehicle. I'd guess 4:11 gears or taller, racing drag slicks and a real dyno tune with some modifications. Even with that work, this is one fast car and I enjoyed the ride.

why would you put shorter gears in a GT500? They are already stock putting excess torque to the rear wheels with the tall gearing. Going to shorter gears means that you add an extra shift or two on your run, while getting little back otherwise. Short gears are great when you have 300hp/300ft-lbs and slicks. They stop being useful when you have 600+ ft-lbs and really need to only shift a couple times on your way to 140+ mph.

OK, makes sense. I stand corrected on gearing but not as to this being a pupose built example of the GT500 and not an off the showroom floor vehicle. Ford has a done its homework and I'm sure there is a Challenger in the works to top this GT500 and it most likely will also be superchared, with one hugh advantage. It will be a supercharged HEMI. Race over!!
