eBay Motors and AutoNation are quickly establishing a reputation for finding new ways to sell cars online. They teamed up for the first time back in March when they tried selling vehicles for half price on the popular auction site. This weekend they're back with another unique promotion that will see the price for certain vehicles drop every hour until they're sold.

The reverse auctions began at 12:00 PM EST today and will run through 8:00 PM EST on Monday, July 2. Each day about 10 vehicles will be posted for sale with an initial Buy it Now price that matches their MSRP. Every hour their prices will drop according to a list of prices that accompanies each auction. A 2012 Nissan Rogue that kicks off the promotion, for instance, is dropping by $500 per hour. The good news is that there is no limit to how far prices can drop, nor a reserve they need to stay above. The only limiting factor is the other person out there who's willing to pay $500 more than you.

As for what sort of vehicles will be sold via this promotion, the list includes vehicles from Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Jeep, Nissan and Toyota, and includes popular models like the Camaro, Mustang, F-150, Fusion, Challenger, Charger, Wrangler, Prius C, Camry and more. And in case you're worried about getting the Mechanic's Special, all of the 50-some vehicles being sold this way are still under factory warranty.

Get your wallets ready and head on over to the special landing page to watch the prices drop.

eBay Motors and AutoNation Direct "Tent Sale" – With a Twist

What's going on? It's not a limbo contest, but eBay is asking consumers to find out how low they can go in a modern version of the classic Summer Tent Sale, offering auto shoppers great deals on brand new 2012 vehicles.

Starting at Noon ET, Thursday, June 28 through 8pm ET, Monday, July 2, eBay Motors, in partnership with AutoNation Direct, will list more than 50 new 2012 cars and trucks in AutoNation Direct's eBay store, with each vehicle's listing price decreasing significantly every hour until one lucky customer decides the time is right to hit "buy-it-now" and make the purchase.

Car shoppers looking to find a great deal will have the opportunity to purchase vehicles during the sale period from a long list of popular brands such as Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Jeep, Nissan and Toyota. Each vehicle listing will appear at various times throughout the sale period in a special online showroom (http://www.ebay.com/new-car-revolution), and will remain there until someone feels the discount is too good to pass up and decides to pull the trigger and buy the vehicle – before someone else does.

It would have to get down to $108 before I even began to consider purchasing a Nissan Rogue.

Nissan Rogue? Shouldn't the decimal point be one place to the left on that time/price chart?

~$8,000 savings on the ones that sold so far. Good luck finding a Juke with $8,000 on the hood.

14 cars, 4-7 hours in and none have sold. I don't see any of these going for a profitable price. Early on there will be a few people that end up with some very good deals, below invoice. The Ford Escape XLT (which is being sold below invoice these days anyway) is 2 hours from going below dealer cost.

There is a bottom line price on all of them, they are only 24 hour auctions so they will only go so low. There are no deals here, the lowest any of them go will still make the dealer money.

Well someone just got a great deal. The dealer cost on that Fiesta is $16k, it sold for just over $11k. No one is making money on that. So far only 1 out of 12 have sold. If it lasts all the way to 24 hours that is another $6k off for a total of $12k. You are saying that $12k off a car with an MSRP of $15-28k isn't a deal? You must really be a sweet talker at the dealership then.

Bids on Ebay's auto & real estate auctions are non binding. They don't actually have to sell it to you for the price you bid.

Yes they are. You are entering a legally binding contract when posting anything on Ebay. The problem is Ebay doesn't enforce it. But you do have the right to take legal action against the dealer if they refuse to sell. It has happened before but that is usually the least of their worries. Stories of non-selling dealers light up the internet like wildfire. Nothing like your dealership going viral because of a deal you refuse to honor.

The key words appear to be "6-speed", "Premium", and "Express". I also see that they all have autotragic transmissions.
