If you have a hard time fathoming what it must be like to drive in a 24-hour endurance race, you're going to want to watch the video after the break. You'll see an Audi R18 e-tron quattro – the fastest cars on the race track at Le Mans, by a smidge, over the similarly hybrid-powered Toyota TS 030 machines – lap the famed French track after the sun has gone down.

Keep in mind that this video is merely three minutes long, and yet the unflinching dedication shown by driver Tom Kristensen is clearly on display. As an added bonus, we've also included a night lap of the circuit in a Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1. Pay close attention about 20 seconds into the second video and you'll see just how scary exciting this kind of competition can be.

Check out both videos by scrolling down below. Are you as excited for Le Mans this weekend as we are?

The difference in speed between an LMP1 car and a GTE car is staggering, especially noticeable in a straight line. That Vette gets passed by (presumably an R18) like it was standing still, roughly holds ground a bit through the corner, then dissappears upon the exit. I can only imagine how much quicker an F1 car is (twice the downforce, 300kg less weight, about 200hp more), but Le Mans is so much more interesting and impressive than Ecclestone's money maker because there is actually more emphasis on the car than the driver. Not that F1 isnt cool (it's 100x better than NASCAR, which is still bearable), but just think about it. In Le Mans, you would say "The R18 wins, piloted by McNish", in F1, it's all "Vettel wins his fifth consecutive race" with nobody giving a crap about the car because the tight rules mean they are all identical inside and out, having the same basic technology ever since they cleaved off 2 cylinders from the epically powerful V10 engines.

Oh, and the tech that has wormed its way into F1 recently isnt out of innovation but attempts to make passing more frequent to drum up excitement and $$$. KERS, DRS, that's about it.

@k_m94 you do know there has been 7 different winners form 7 different races this year in F1, right? "Le Mans is so much more interesting and impressive than Ecclestone's money maker because there is actually more emphasis on the car than the driver". I thought that's what people hated about F1? That the best car wins no matter who the driver was. I guess you just cant make everyone happy. Unbelievable.

Love the Corvette, but the Audi is INSANE! Every time they go hard on the brakes you can hear the flywheel winding up... and the thing looks great.

That braking sequence sounds emphatically epic, holy bananas. Its really impeccable what a machine they created, looks and everything.

Awesome! Tried driving one of these in a video game, my mind wandered for a split second and off to wall I go. Cant imagine in real life how much strength and endurance it takes to run one of these.

I love racing, I have been a fan since I started watching F1 with Senna, Prost and all the other all time greats. I am not a NASCAR fan, however if you actually watch a NASCAR race you might find it is much more interesting and competitive than many other forms of racing! I watched about five hours of the 24 and most of it was boring as hell! I enjoyed the night racing the most. F1, Moto GP, FIM World Superbike, and believe it or not AMA Superbike where Josh Hayes and Blake Young are having one of the best fights for the Championship ever are some of my favorite forms of motorsport! So you can continue to live in whichever pissant country you like and know that not all Americans are as boring or as ignorant as you are.
