Jim Sharp of Elkhorn, Wisconsin needs a red 1967 Pontiac GTO to make his dad's Father's Day, possibly his last one, something extra special.

Back in the '60s, Jim's dad, Ken, drove a cherry red 1967 GTO to California for a job. He met a girl, got married and decided his wife's 1965 Ford Mustang was more fuel efficient than the Goat and the GTO was sold. As the story almost always goes, Ken has had seller's regret ever since.

Jim always meant to find a 1967 GTO and, with his dad's help, restore it. But life got in the way, time slipped by and Ken was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given about three months to live.

Jim went to Hemmings forums asking for help:

"My dad would love to own a GTO, but finances aren't there to do so, and I am really hoping to get one for him to drive around for a while. He now spends his days going fishing sunup to sundown as that is what he wants to do. I can think of no better way to get him from home to his fishing spot and back again than in a GTO!"

So if you know of anyone in the Elkhorn area willing to loan or rent their GTO for a day, Daniel Strohl at Hemmings asks you to contact him as soon as possible.

you know what Ms. Myers I am so sick of folks who see the worst possible side of everything they run across in life. I just wish God would take a big inhale and suck all the negative pessimistic people up with him. Man wouldn't the world be a nicer place.

The '67 GTO is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. I hope he gets to enjoy one again.

Here is one by me in MN on Craigslist. And it is a California car, would be neat if it was the same one that his dad owned back in the day. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/3062151580.html

I hope someone at General Motors sees this and can pull some strings. It'd be a great PR move. Could make a commercial even like that Chevy Impala one.

I agree that that would be a great PR move for GM, however, the main issue I see here is that Pontiac is no longer around. Now, if the car in the story were an old Corvette, Malibu, or even an old Chevy truck, this story would have "Chevy, Runs Deep" written all over it. With an old Pontiac, they would have to find a way to incorporate it into an ad marketing the company as a whole, and with a company as large as GM, that could be difficult. With that in mind, if I were GM, and looking to help this guy out, I would probably do it in a more private manner, go for the "feel-good" headlines as opposed to a potential ad campaign.

I want to take a moment to let everyone know that my family and I are completely humbled by the sheer volume of offers that have come in. Thank you to all those that have responded with cars, those with well wishes and those with prayers. I am excited to announce that Joe from Illinois has graciously offered up his cherry red 67 GTO just like the one my dad had many years ago!!! The surprise event will be taking place this Friday and I will be picking him up from his cancer clinic checkup and we will be driving wherever he wants to go! I am sure one of the first places we go will be to pick up his fishing gear and drive to his favorite pond! This will be a fathers day gift that will mean so much to him! I will be documenting this and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel found out about it and will be writing a story which will run in the Sunday paper for father’s day. Like I said before I am so grateful for all the support I have been shown with this request and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart! God bless! Jim
